Wow. I never expected this story to be so good. More than good. There is more depth, passion, love and friendship than I ever imagined. The story is m..Show More »agnificent with a real plot and wonderful characters. The growth of these characters is well-written, and the plot is very unique and powerful. It does not feel contrived; instead, there is a true story here with twists and turns that make In Bed With the Devil a "stay up all night" sort of book... :)
This is my second Lorraine Heath. I didn't like the Outlaw and the Lady, so I was hesitant to listen to this. I've owned this audiobook for nearly two years. But what a treat when I finally gave it a chance!
Added to the great writing is the amazing talent of Susan Ericksen. (the male narrator only reads a few journal entries.) She is one of the all time great narrators, and she brought this story to life beautifully. Honestly the reason I gave Heath another chance was bc of Susan Ericksen.
This audiobook deserves every star. And I highly recommend it to fans of Lisa Kleypas, Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, Elizabeth Hoyt...really any Historical Romance lover.
As for the sensuality level of the book: it is less steamy that Elizabeth Hoyt, but far more than Julia Quinn. The chemistry between the Hero and Heroine is sizzling. Lorraine Heath delivers the perfect balance of passion and friendship, turning what begins as lust to the truest love. Thus she leaves her readers very satisfied!!! :)
I already have the second book of this series downloaded and I'm ready for more! ❤❤❤
I had low expectations on this book. Sterling (Catherine's brother) was a jerk on the first book and continued to be a jerk at the beginning of this o..Show More »ne. Frannie was very uptight. And although I absolutely believe in love/lust at first sight sometimes it is difficult to believe. But it totally worked on this book. As only Heath can master she developed another powerful love story. Her character development continues to amaze me as both Frannie and Sterling ended up being completely different from why I was expecting at the beginning.
I suggest that you follow this series in order as you will get updates of the other couples from previous books. The epilogue was So So Sooo good! It gives you the impression the author was going to end the series with that book. It was a complete conclusion. She even said what will happen to the inspector. She apparently changed her mind because there is a fourth book with the story of Jim. All in a this was another great romantic and passionate story with excellent character development that will keep you wanting more.
Narration: Susan Ericksen did a very good. Great accents, great emotions and intensity. Definitely worth your time and credit!
I loved this series, but this book was my absolute favorite. After listening to the first three, I grew to appreciate James Swindler, but not as much..Show More » as I did in this book. It captured my attention in the beginning, but commanded my attention from about 2 1/2 hours in until the very end. It brought tears to my eyes on several occasions and it made me laugh and scowl. I don't remember another love story bringing me this much emotion in a long time. This is a series that I will listen to again and again!
