I enjoyed this book immensely. I like the narrator and have no problem with the way she does male voices. I've listened to her many times and I'm use..Show More »d to her style of reading. I find it easy to get lost in the book & characters with this narrator.

The book itself is suspenseful all the way to the very end. As to Jane being the stereotype of 'women in a male world' - so what? I felt it was an honest characterization of a strong woman doing what is considered a man's job. I find it too much on the mark to ridicule the book based on that.

The self-psycho analysis of the 'surgeon' was excellent and very mind provoking. Really makes you start to think about the sort of things and people who do this sort of thing.

I have not read the first book "The Surgeon" and doubt if I do so while this one is fresh on my mind, but I will probably pick it up in the future. I also now plan to pick up some more of Gerritsen's books as I like her style of writing.

This is the first book that I have read by this author. I am now half way through the CD's and am astounded at the character build up, the emotional g..Show More »rasp of the characters, and the titilation as you are left with at each chapter. For instance, at the end of one chapter, a character is in a dark garage aware that someone is there with her. Several chapters later in the beginning of the chapter, this same character is now in a concrete tomb,trying to claw her way out and not knowing why she is there. I am already looking for more books by this author. I like her main character --strong, sharp, intelligent, sensitive, and kind. I can't wait to listen to more of her books. I recommend this book to highly.

Have liked the series and will continue to give it a listen as more are produced. As to this particular episode, a couple of points are probably worth..Show More » noting. 1) For fans of Maura Isles, you'll be disappointed. She was really on the periphery of this story - it could easily have been written without her. 2) For those who really need a "production" rather than a book read to them, you probably won't be happy with this. You can't tell a character by voice inflection with this narrator - not a biggie with me, but it seems to be an issue with a number of people who write some pretty scathing reviews. All in all, steady fodder from Gerritsen that I would recommend.

I've always enjoyed Gerritsen's books and the characters of Maura Isles and Jane Rizzoli. But this story is so full of holes and completely bizarre be..Show More »havior that I kept listening just to discover what inane twists Gerritsen would add next. Maura is just plain whiney for the first part of the book -- is she surprised that having an affair with a Catholic priest is a recipe for heartache? -- and then we have to listen to endlessly banal conversations as she goes on an ill-fated road trip with an irresponsible medical colleague and his dysfunctional friends. Worst part is that Maura -- who comes across as prisisy and priggish -- is always a step ahead of these people in terms of foreseeing problems, and yet she lets Dr. Doug, aka Peter Pan, lead the group into one disaster after another. There's a ridiculous case of a corpse being misidentified that would have lasted about 30 seconds if someone had actually bothered to check dental records BEFORE the funeral -- what kind of investigators are these people? After an impressive body count and a few false "solutions" to the crimes, the story ends with a reference to some unspoken clue that will affect one of the character's futures. Is it something we're supposed to remember from a previous book? Or is it a starting-off point for the next novel? Either way, it's the final frustration in a frustrating novel.

What I didn't like was the missing interaction between Rizzoli and Isles and even between Rizzoli and the rest of the family, which are only mentioned in passing.The main reason I read Tess Gerritsens Books is because of the interaction of the characters and the full cast of friends family and rivals to follow. Isles storyline I think is only there to prepare for the next book. I really hope that in the next book TG will go back to a real Rizzoli and Isles story

There is less emphasis on the details of forensic pathology than in other books in this series, with Maura Isles playing a surprisingly different role in the unfolding of the enigma of three twice-orphaned children and the deaths of their parents and guardians. The plot takes one unexpected turn after another in a wild ride through realms ranging from metaphysics to astrophysics and just about everything in between.

Great narration especially in capturing Rizzoli's gritty Boston cop's tone and accent. I had a hard time breaking away from this book and found every conceivable excuse to get back to it as soon as possible!
