I feel as though I know the people and places after reading the story, and the mystery has enough twists to keep me guessing. I'm looking forward to continuing the series and getting to know Judge Knott and her family and friends even better.

A combination murder mystery and family drama, Up Jumps the Devil delivers the clearest image yet Deborah Knott's large and diverse family and backgro..Show More »und. The mystery is a bit of a yawn, and the narrative is a somewhat disjointed, but, if you are a Knott fan, you will delight in the details of her and her family's background. If you cotton to a more plot driven yarn, you may not be as satisfied. The narration is a bit stilted. In some places it seems Critt is injecting perkiness into her delivery of a sentence to cover her lack of understanding of its context. Her earlier Knott series performances were more satisfying.

I've listened to all the Deborah Knott books and love them and C J Critt. This book makes you want to visit North Carolina!

Sand Sharks is a undulating mystery with several plotlines running at the same time. In addition, there are very specific descriptions of the Wilmingt..Show More »on, Wrightsville Beach area that are entirely accurate. I like Margaret Maron's writing style as she describes Deborah Knox, the lead character along with detailed history of her family and friends. This author drew me back to her books because they integrate North Carolina history and culture with the plotline of each book. I will continue to read this author's works because each one is uniquely entertaining.

I found myself learning how she would pronounce words and her phraseology then it started getting on my nerves. This is the first book I have put down barely one-half in. I will stick to Michael Connelly.

I very much enjoy Margaret Maron's books. I've read them all and have enjoyed each one. I thought listening to them would be a pleasure as well but ..Show More »I'm sorry to say I cannot 'hear' Deborah in C.J. Critt's narration. She sounds like a New England transplant, not the "Bootlegger's Daughter". There's not a trace of any Southern accent. Curiously however Dwight sounds quite Southern. So I will stick to Margaret Maron in print.

I went with a neutral rating for the story since I only got about 1/3 of the way through when I decided the printed version would better suit.
