Okay. I follow Star Wars and have read most of the novels in the SW Universe. The book was palatable because a) it continues to develop the story li..Show More »ne and b) once again my favorite characters were brought to life by a *great* narrator. However, this series in general is beginning to become predictable. A couple more Jedi go nuts and Luke/Ben visit one more world and learn one more of Jacen's force abilities. *Yawn* The book could have been longer and could have developed the story line deeper. I also think that suddenly fabricating a new Sith race is.... kind of shallow. ( As was done by releasing "Lost Tribe of the Sith: Precipice" in May 2009.)
First off Troy Denning is my favorite SW writer.
He paces his novels as if they were a screenplay for a movie. This novel is not meant to be a s..Show More »tand alone book, although you could start here if your looking to get into this series. This novel was a total trip. I mean it's really creepy all the way through, then WHAM! The last few chapters will blow you away.
It's even more exciting with the audiobook. Marc Thompson nails every character, especially Luke Skywalker. He's fantastic. And best of all, this series is unabriged. Definitely worth your credit.
I really liked the audio-back version of Backlash. March Thompson really helps bring the story to life with his impersonations of the various characte..Show More »rs. His Luke Skywalker and Han Solo voices are pretty dead-on and really sound like Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, making them truly sound like the characters.
His characterizations of the Sith, the Dathomiri, The GA officials, Imperial officials, and other characters give a sense of the story that just reading the book the normal way does not.
I'd highly recommend any Star Wars audiobook who has Marc Thompson as the narrator/character voices.
So far I think this is the best of this series of Star Wars books. a good story, although none of the books in the expanded universe have captured the..Show More » magic of the original Star Wars trilogy. But I admit that I am probably biased about that.
What makes this particular series of Star Wars novels such fun to listen to is the narrator. Marc Thompson is fantastic. He really sounds like he has studied these characters. Luke Skywalker sounds like Luke, Han Solo sounds like Han. Thompson's impressions of alien characters is superb. I have been looking forward to each book for the narrator as much as the story itself.
This series continues to improve as it the story progresses. This is a much more emotional story. It's has happy moment and some sad moments. I real..Show More »ly enjoyed and will listen to it again. If you follow the star wars universe, you'll want to continue with this story. If you haven't read/listened any of the previous Fate of the Jedi, then you'll want to read or listen to them first.
Marc Thompson is a great narrator. I hope to see more narrations from him and not just Star Wars books.
So I’ve read and listened to a large swath of the Star Wars cannon, 60 odd books. I love every title. So my thoughts and opinions are jaded by my feel..Show More »ings for this universe. But if you’re into Luke Skywalker and Jedi you can’t go wrong with the Fate series.
