I started this series from the beginning after listening to almost all of the Vamp/Super natural fiction available. I have completed all the Vamp Acad..Show More »emy,Georgina Kincaid,Sookie Stackhouse,Black Dagger Brotherhood,House of Night and The MorganVille Vampires to name a few. Being in between any new releases of my many favorites I was looking for anything to tide me over. I am Honestly VERY happy with this series so far. I just finished book 4 and plan to continue. I love the narrator though I see it changes later...I hope it doesn't change things for me. I like the sound effects and music, adds to the suspense. I have discovered that I enjoy the mystery,CSI crime scene and Super Natural combination.... I do miss a little romance but you can't have everything. I hope this helps someone, I always read the reviews and try to decide what I think I will like. Hopefully my points of interest can help another. This appears to be a LONG series and I hope to continue to enjoy them all. Keep you posted. EnJOY!

"Burnt offerings", Book 7 of L.K.H.'s "Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Series" brings Anita, Jean Claude, Richard Zeeman, loyal werewolves and were-l..Show More »eopards against the Nightmare of the infamous "Vampire Council". This book, especially in audible.com format is a real ride. Richard and Anita are fighting, "The Circus of the Dammed" has been taken over by the "Council" and it's pick of hostages for their horrific brand of entertainment and Jean Claude's past catches up with him.
As with all the first nine "Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Series" on audible.com books, I listen to them over and over again. Many people have complained about the music and sound effects that come up once in a while during the listen. I listen both on my computer (5 speakers), and on my Android smart phone. The difference is HUGE. Alexis sounds smoother (if that's even possible), the music and sound effects really add to the performance and bring up emotion at critical moments on my computer system.
Most people who do not like the added material are listening to the books on smart phones or MP3 players. I must say, the experience is sad in comparison. Kimberly Alexis (through no fault of her own), sounds a bit high pitched and hollow, but her talent alone saves this kind of audio format. I have to agree that the added sound and music for some reason is so loud on any and all portable devices, it makes you turn down the volume (where you can't here the narrator), or just pull out the ear buds or head phones until it's over.
I hope the people who are complaining will listen to at least one of the books on computer speakers. Even a basic set of two will prove my point about the enhanced experience with music and gunshots.
Hamilton and Alexis are a perfect team of writer and performer. Together they bring "Burnt Offerings" to life in all it's gritty tough as nails,"Anita" against the monsters she hates and holding her own with the monsters she loves in her own twisted way.Great Book!

I would have enjoyed this audio book so much more if Penguin would have held back on the dramatic music/sound effects or at the VERY least lowered the..Show More » VOLUME on them. I had to fast forward over one of the most dramatic scenes at the end of the book because I could barely hear the narrative over the crap! After waiting YEARS for the backlist of LKH books to be released, it's a huge disappointment to have to deal with this. I also wished they could have used the same narrator as the current books just because it's hard to get used to another narrator but that was a much smaller hurdle than the dramatic sounds...

This book teaches us more about Edward, which is good, but there is very little interaction with Jean-Claude or Richard. That is doubly disappointing..Show More » because audible doesn't offer Narcissus in Chains, the next book and the one after that has a different reader. Enjoy what little of Jean-Claude you get from this one because in Cerulean Sins the reader doesn't do Jean-Claude's accent. One other thing about this book is there seems to be a few tracks or a chapter missing near the end. I was able to follow with out it, but I thought it was strange.

The narrato..Show More »r is horrible. Her voice is raspy like Marge Simpson. Her portrayal of Micah is awful. I thought Cynthia Holloway's narration in the series was "bad" compared to Kimberly Alexis, but it really isn't that bad compared to this narration.

I can only hope that the publisher will get around doing another production of this book so I can have an audiobook for the library that's not painful to listen to. But I don't think that the publishers really care about the quality of their audiobooks (e.g. they don't believe that their customers will be that discerning).

The upside of this horrible listen is that the book is short, VERY short.

This has to be one of the most stupid books I have ever attempted to read... what a waste of money.

I don't mind all the sex, really I don't. I don't even mind that in the later Anita Blake books all major plots are resolved through sex. Ok, that is ..Show More »a big fat lie, I do mind. But really, what's worse is that Laurells characters have all gone stagnant. Sure, they get new magical abilities now and then (after sex), but they keep having the same emotional problems over and over again. And then instead of resolving these side plots Laurell just goes on and adds another sexual partner/character to keep it fresh, a character that is all but forgotten in the next book.

I was a huge fan of the first nine or ten Anita Blake books, and doggedly stuck through the last several installations in the hope that Hamilton would..Show More » bring back the tough-as-nails vampire hunter I knew and loved. Unfortunately for me, the last few books ran like this:

There's a murder. Anita and Jean Claude talk. Anita and a few guys have sex. Then they talk about all the reasons they had sex. Anita feels guilty because she's having too much sex. She has some more sex. Lather, rinse, and repeat a few times, throw in some overdramatic scenes with Richard/Micah/whoever, solve the murder case in the last twenty pages, slap a twenty-five dollar price tag on it, and call it done.

In Skin Trade, however, Hamilton brings Anita back to herself. This story is a decent paranormal mystery, almost as good as "Circus of the Damned" or "Blue Moon". She does throw in a few sex scenes (pretty good ones, too), but doesn't lose the thrust of the mystery in all of the. . .well, thrusting.

I, for one, am thrilled to have the old girl back to carrying around more weapons than boyfriends. For the first time in a long time, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in the next book.

under 4 hours. Reads more like a subplot in one of her usual works.

First, I would like to say how glad I was to find that Kimberly Alexis, is once again the narrator. Her take on Jean-Claude's french accent is perfect..Show More ». She makes the story much more enjoyable. She IS the voice of Anita Blake, in my opinion.

Having said that, now I would like to comment on the story. What there was of a plot, was over shadowed by the very explict sex scenes. One after another. I think it is safe to say that, "Bullet" contains the most graphic sexual content, of any of the prior "Anita Blake" books.
So, if you are not comfortable with M/M, BDSM, F/F or group sex, then you will find this book, well..... more than alittle upsetting.

WARNING: These books are addicting. There is something about the whole, OMGosh, they didn't just do that, "SHOCK FACTOR", that keeps readers, like me, buying book after book.

In fact, this book starts with the case already solved and focuses more on assassinating the culprit and feeding the ardeur. Anita Blake books consistently highlight sexism in her field. While this is an important issue, she still reacts to it like a novice with a lack of progression in any of her arguments or efforts to change her environment. Good god, girl! Learn the lessons of our foremothers. Organize a strong argument with numerous and coherent axioms. Then, implement a strategy for cultural metamorphosis or get over it. Obviously, there are a lot of small-minded people out there. Move on and enjoy who you are, what you are, and what you do. Unfortunately over the years, many of Hamilton’s characters have become static, and I just get the feeling that she is bored of writing Anita Blake stories. You may wonder why I even listen to these books? It is a really valid question. Here is my answer. I still listen to these books because the first books in this series are wonderful and showcase Hamilton’s talents in storytelling and hot love or hot like or hot hi there. I keep hoping that Hamilton will get back to writing tight and interesting plots along with the polyamorous interactions.

I started reading the Anita Blake series with a true appreciation for the story and characters. As the series developed, I treated the series like an..Show More » old friend, overlooking the annoying traits and focusing on the familiar good qualities. Like many fans, in the later books I enjoy parts of the story and cringe at other aspects. In book 21 it becomes even more difficult to wade through the slimy swamp to get to the island of plot.

In fairness, there is a bit of story here, and there is a crime to be solved. In typical LKH fashion and without spoilers, there is a speedy conclusion without a lot a detail -- LKH's usual, "Oh, by the way, we got the bad guy" ending. The villian is not well integrated into the story and the wrap-up is much too simplistic after drama point is reached.

While there was not quite as much sex as some of the books in the middle of the series when the ardeur ran amuck and bad guys were forcing events, this book reached a new level for passionless, emotionless, thoughtless, mechanical sex. The in-the-moment discussion and analysis of size and position, coupled with post-game player comparisons and performance appraisals of "you were AMAZING," were at times truly cringe-worthy. While in the past I did not agree with many of the sex-scene decisions made by LKH, I could feel that the author thought they were necessary to her vision of the events and characters. In this book, I didn't get the feeling that LKH wanted to include the sex.

For me, the Anita Blake series has been like a delicious nut with a tough and enormous shell, but there is usually enough enjoyment to reward the effort. LKH has a fantastic imagination and has created a wonderful world for her characters. I feel that these 21 books could be edited and culled down to about 3 or 4 works of fantastic fiction, but that is pure hindsight. What I do know is that this book was greatly overwhelming in shell with very little nut to be found.
