I'm not sure what I was looking at on Audible to find this book & author, but was it ever my lucky day!! This book is so fun and the narrator is terr..Show More »ific, too. I download my books on CDs and listen to them in the car. I sat in the car in my garage (not running of course, did not want to become one of Kyra's next characters) listening to the final disc and couldn't wait to rush up here and write a review.
Rest assured, I will put all of her books in my wish list.
I truly think her books are right up there with the Women's Murder Club novels by James Patterson and I adore him.
Thanks, Audible, for another great female author who writes exceptionally fun and entertaining books.
This is the second Sophie Katz book in the series and I really enjoyed this book, even more than the first one. I thought I had the murderer figured o..Show More »ut really early on but about half way through the book a twist was tossed in and put me off guard and from that point on I could not figure out who was the murder until they revealed themselves at the end. I found this book a light easy read and would classify it Chick Lit Mystery. I also enjoyed the narrator, even though once or twice a book she seems to get the voices mixed up a little not enough to drive you crazy just enough that you recognize it. I would recommend this book to people who like light murder mysteries.
The first two books of this series were hilarious! This one was only so-so. I loved the Dena and Maryann dynamic in the first two books and in this on..Show More »e Dena hardly showed up at all! I guess it was the whole "furries" thing. NOBODY is into it. Well except for a select few.
An okay read if there is nothing else you are interested in. I sure wish I would have put my credit to better use.
I admit to being an ardent Kyra Davis fan and have all of her titles in my audio library.
The first three titles were also narrated by Gabra Zac..Show More »kman. Usually I love her voice and the unique way she captures all of the individual characters, their little foibles and nuances etc...but I have to agree with the previous reviewer who also noticed that Gabra's treatment of Lust, Loathing and a Little Lip Gloss was not as consistant in that she had a tendency to do this little 'up speak' thingy which after a while became quite distracting, if not a little annoying at times (sorry Gabra...nothing personal!)
Having said that, Gabra is one of my favourite narrators and she portrays Sophie Katz et al brilliantly. This latest Sophie Katz mystery is a little different..we see a more settled and mature protagonist. A woman in love and as ever, courting danger with her lovable but slightly 'Kookie' friends coming to her rescue. Highly entertaining and always intriguing. I devoured it with a voracious appetite and can't wait for Kyra's next book.
This is a must read who-dunnit. Within minutes, Dena is shot in Maryanne's apartment and the rest of the novel is a classily woven who-done-it. There..Show More » are many twist, turns and interesting backstories. Anatoly get fleshed out and we learn that he has secrets -- so there is a lot of meat in the backstories.
Garra Zackman continue to do a great job narrating and I've become accustomed to her reasonable pace and excellent control of the character interactions.
You want to read this novel and you are going to want to get to the next one as soon as possible. Keep the series going, its still has legs.
The Sophie Katz mysteries gets better and better. In Vows, Vendetta, and a little Black dress, she sets up her latest novel Vanity, Vengeance and a W..Show More »eekend in Vegas. Davis does a marvelous job threading the ending of one mystery with the beginning of the next. Another strong suite is her continual rounding out of Sophie’s supporting cast. She allows the characters to grow and develop along with the central mystery. This growth started several novels ago and strongly continues.
In this Novel, the story starts innocently as Sophie consoles herself with her friends in Vegas after she and Anatoly split. Finding out he was - is married was too much. And, then the roller coaster ride starts the free fall. The series is great and you should definitely read this. If you haven’t got caught up on the series, you should go back as do so. This novel doesn’t really give anything away from the early novels so you should be pretty safe.
Sophie Katz is a strong central figure. There is a lot to admire, make you laugh and shake your head. The cast of charters work well together and you probably won’t guess what’s going to happen next. If you like the Stephanie Plum, Scarpetta or Pendergast series, this is a great addition to you reading lists. I highly recommend it and there is a hook to the next installment -- but you'll have to read it to find it.
