Almost a year ago, I had amassed credits on my account and found a few books to use them up and close my account. One of them was the first book in th..Show More »is series. My 17-year old daughter and I listened to that book late this summer while traveling and I had to rejoin Audible just to get the entire series. The sex scenes can be a bit much, but that would be my only complaint. This series is addictive. We blasted through 5 books in a few weeks and were anxiously awaiting the next credits.
The story: The characters are believable and engaging. They are dynamic. The plots are interesting and fast-moving with just enough twists to keep a sharp mind attentive. The sex scenes are believable and fairly graphic (for my 17-year old, but we openly discuss such things so I was okay with it.) One big caveat: Go to her website to get the reading order. I believe that after book 3, you need to switch to the "Night Huntress World" series before reading books 4 and 5. Double check that, I'm going from memory.
The performance: The reader was FANTASTIC. She really brought the characters to life. She made the action scenes and scenes with emotion really shine. I've since gone looking for other things that she reads.
If another installment of this series came available, it would jump to the top of my wish list.
So this book was way better than the first. I'm addicted to this series and can't wait to keep going. I loved some of the turns the series took with t..Show More »his installment and there was definitely some stuff there that I wasn't expecting. These books are making for wonderful entertaining on my daily commute. Again, my main complaint is with the voice the narrator uses for Bones. Isn't just not masculine enough. But I do recommend these books for anyone that likes some urban romance. Just beware there are very long and detailed sex scenes in the books.
I've read a lot of fantasy / paranormal romance books and must admit I've found a lot of them to be too formulaic, too predictable or to be full of "s..Show More »tormy emotions" that don't grip the reader at all.
The Night Huntress series, on the other hand, does EVERYTHING right.
The story is fast paced, original, fun and sexy. The chemistry between Cat and Bones is sizzling. The side characters all have their own personalities - which add a lot of spice to the story. Despite the fantasy backdrop, it's hard not to get emotionally involved in the story. The book had me both in tears and grinning from ear to ear.
It's hard to compare the books to anything else, but imagine Trinity from the Matrix movies, put into a True Blood-ish setting. Add Spike from Buffy as the male lead and make Quentin Tarantino the director - and you might get an idea what kind of ride you're in for.
This series is addicting!!! Highly recommended. The plot is intricate, characters compelling and narration superb. I often forget that I have not see..Show More »n these in a movie format because once you begin listening you are immediatly emersed into the world of the night huntress - Thank you Jeaniene Frost for sharing your gift.
This series is one of the best I’ve read/listen to... the characters are in depth and the narrator does such a great job at portraying them you'll act..Show More »ually be left thinking 'Ha, that's something Vlad would say' etc... If you have read/listen to the first 4 books of the Night Huntress Series and the 2 World Huntress Series it's a must, while each book is easily a standalone story, they definitely run on from one another. If this is one of the first series you've gotten, I also liked the Sookie Stackhouse series, Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs series and the Drake Chronicles (It's taken me a long time to find some good vampire series, I wished people would write what else they liked in their comments)... Happy reading, can't wait for the Vlad World Huntress book to come out...
It's great to get another slice of what's been happening in Bones and Cat's Vampire lives (or deaths)..... even if it is just a brief visit it's still..Show More » so wonderfully worthwhile. Bones is happily celebrating his birthday (which is weeks before Xmas) when suddenly there's a phone call and the trouble starts from there but it's when he's introduced to someone new that things really get scary for them.
It may only be 3.5 hrs long but boy does it pack a lot in.... there's drama, angst, humor, demons, a good v evil battle, heartbreak, romance and even sex during a life or death struggle as another entity forces the pair to risk everything in order to save themselves..... and some of there friends too.
Worth a credit? If, like me, you're a fan of this series then I'm sure you'll agree that it's just great to rejoin the Night Huntress much loved characters which were all beautifully portrayed by Tavia Gilbert's talented narration whose voice brings this series to life. I don't usually like or listen to short stories but getting a new book in this series is like getting a gift and it's one I'd have happily used a credit on but at under $10 I bought it and saved my credit for a longer, more expensive, but maybe not as enjoyable and exciting a listen.
There is a new addition that I would have never thought of! Please, please let there be more of this series coming soon, It can't wait as long as we d..Show More »id for this installment for the next. Tavia's narration is second to none and she really brings this book to life compared to another populare series; the Black Dagger Brotherhood which I don't really like but everyone else seem to love, maybe it me but I think it's the BDB's narrator (I think he's just awful, I think Robert Petkoff would have done the series justice). This series is simply amazing, for me this is the best series I've listened to and would recommend it to anyone. Everyone I've suggested this series to couldn't believe how well written and read it is. The twists, turns and tie-ins between the other books are handled so well I would like the opportunity to meet Ms. Frost just to pick her brain. If you like the Night Huntress series, You will not be disappointed with this book.
