I just discovered these types of cozy, paranormal mysteries, and I have to say I am ready for more. Secondhand Spirits is light and breezy fun with a..Show More » bit of darkness for some edge. For me witches can always add to the recipe for a good time; throw in some vintage fashion, a cool San Francisco Haight-Ashbury setting, a haunted house, a gargoyle that can morph into a pot-belly pig, herbs, spells, and demons and ... what more can you want. And there are NO vampires, a huge plus as far as I'm concerned! The characters were all likeable as well, especially the magic-wary Lily who can no longer deny her powers when she discovers children have been going missing in the City (what can be a touchy subject is handled in a sensitive manner). This is certainly not rocket science I know, but it IS terribly fun brain candy which we all need at least from time to time (me more than most probably)! As of this writing Audible has no other books from this series, so I hope more are on their way.
This is the second book of the Character Lilly Ivory as she grows more comfortable with being a witch and embracing her power. I'd this one as I did ..Show More »the first: funny and light, not violent or obscene. My observation for book two is the same as it is for #1; I wish the writer Juliet Blackwell would allow herself to give more depth to the characters. The French nuns were a major point in the book, but I still didn't really get to know these women and why they chose that path or why/if they had been deceived; the point was glazed over quickly in the story. I still liked the story however.
IN A WITCH'S WARDROBE is a well-written, fast-paced supernatural cozy mystery with a little romance and a little action. I wish there was a little mo..Show More »re romance for Lilly, but, perhaps that will be in future books. Lilly is slowly realizing what she is capable of and finding her place in San Francisco. The next book seems to offer more challenges for Lily. I can't wait.
Any of Juliet Blackwell's books are worth reading if you enjoy lite paranormal tales with a bit or romance. With enough true knowledge of witchcraft..Show More », demons, ghosts and all other manor of the paranormal to make her writing makes you believe her tales. Their is always the humor, sarcasm and romance that is in her books to make her characters lovable. So far her villains have been evil, but sometimes you feel sympathetic.
