Where to start?...make sure you like some of the following : this is a 3book set for one credit, it's a cliff hanger in other words the saga goes on, ..Show More »medical experiments gone wrong on a world wide epidemic level, millions of rounds of ammo being shot, mutated people that are difficult to kill. Not zombies but maybe the next level up because they continue to evolve, there are heroic rescues, did I miss sex, yea there is some of that also, then there are handicapped heroes , oh and I almost forgot a dog. And in the end you find out some higher score have very questionable agendas. This set will keep you listening for 3 or 4 days for only one credit, and it is no stopped action. Hope you enjoy this one
For the 1st 3 books a reader could suspended belief to a point. But the 4th book threw all that out the window.
This time he put the chara..Show More »cters is outrageously, unrealistic scenarios. Then stretchs belief beyond the breaking point when snipers who previously could not miss now miss by a fraction of a inch in order to carry the story on.
Brave men with shotguns, at point blank range, can't hit a variant in the head.
Where in previous battles a few defenders would repulse an attack while outnumbered, now a larger force of trained Marines succumb to a smaller force of variants even though half the variants are not fighting but rounding up prisoners.
The most frustrating part is the description of Marines running away along with civilians in a situation where there is no where to run.
It's terrible to see an author ruin a story in an attempt to extend it into another trilogy.
I'm very disappointed.
Update after Book 6: Bought the box set, books 4-6 so I went ahead and finished it. All I felt at the end.. whew, thank God that's over!
This audiobook seriously made me feel like I was listening to a movie. Bronson turned Smith's breakthrough novel into a living, breathing story. I can..Show More »'t recommend this one highly enough. If you like post-apocalyptic/science fiction thrillers then this is for you. Probably the best audiobook I've listened to besides The Martian.
I have been called an aficionado in the zombie genre for the sheer number of books I've read and reviewed, and now written. The one thing many will he..Show More »re me say over and over again is that I prefer a traditional zombie. Mutations, aliens, and a strong sci-fi theme has never been my thing.
So I really have to hand it to Smith for taking me well out of my comfort zone and earning my five stars.
Smith's zombies are terrifying. Multifaceted genetic mutations crafted by the callus hand of man where the only thing you can count on with these abominations is that you have no idea what they'll do next. Smith continues to up the ante with his second book in his bestselling Extinction series and I'm left hungry for more.
A successful z-book for me must have ample gore, and Smith doesn't disappoint. Buy this book. Tell your friends to buy this book. For those who say zombies aren't trending anymore, i dare you to read this series and reevaluate that statement.
And now, to nag the author on social media to write faster!
This series has been an amazing thrill ride. Book 3 is the BEST of the series so far, and I cannot wait for the next. I listened to this book straigh..Show More »t through and loved every second. That Fitz is still my favorite character!!
I've now listened to the whole series 2x and what can I say? I laughed, I cried, I got angry at the monsters both human and variant. These books were ..Show More »written in a way that each character came alive and in the end I was relieved at the the victories achieved by each and every person in the books. Thank you Mr. Sansbury Smith for the introduction to my new friends and if I happen to have the privilege of meeting them again in the future, I wouldn't complain!
Love this series! Hits the floor running and comes back to all my favorite characters. Bronson Pinchot nails it again with his stellar narration. His ..Show More »cadence and tempo keep you on the edge of your seat!
Exciting, Emotionally Charged! Can't Wait for what's Next!
Nicholas Sandburg Smith's exciting story puts the reader in touch with the thoughts and feelings of the marines or soldiers on the Ground. They are ..Show More »cut off from the rest of the war. They are lonely, afraid, tired and wounded but they keep pushing regardless of everything to complete their mission. Some are more likeable than others but they are all brave and keep fighting even in the midst of their fear. The refrain, "All It takes is all you have" frames the story and moves it along, keeping us always grounded in the feelings of the "grunt" on the ground.
I read this story quickly in Snafu anthology and enjoyed it very much. It was when I listened to it on Audible that I was able to appreciate the depth of the characterization and the writing technique that put me in the characters shoes. I loved this story!
