It read like a work that had been done as a freshmen in college or high school, Maybe drug out of the dark, from the back of a dusty drawer, and someo..Show More »ne said "hey ,we could release this and take advantage of all the success, those poor saps will buy ANYTHING SHE WRITES!!!!!!!!!and I did.
I absolutely love the Ravenloft world, so it's probably no surprise that the stories tend to let me down from time to time. At times, this story almos..Show More »t had the oppressively hopeless atmosphere right, at other times it seemed too much like your standard fantasy adventure fare. There were a few plot points I felt didn't really go anywhere, unless they were meant to be red herrings, and I feel they missed out on a lot of possibilities.
Overall I enjoyed it well enough, though if I had to recommend other novels from the Ravenloft series I'd pick "Vampire of the Mists," "I, Strahd" volumes 1 and 2, and "Knight of the Black Rose" over this one.
