The book started slowly but as you listen you begin to like the main characters, father, son, and the other characters linked to them. I'm not normal..Show More »ly a fan of military based novels but will puchase other books in the series by this author. I would have given this book 4.5 to 5 stars with the exception that it ended a bit abruptly. I would have liked a bit more follow up on the relationships the author developed throughout the novel but still well worth listening to.
I love Griffin's books, but the narrator of this book couldn't have been much worse. His affectations..Show More » of German and Argentine dialects are horrible, and his reading is excruciatingly slow and boring I didn't even look at the reviews before I bought it as I was so excited to get this latest release. If you're like me and you have to have this Griffin book, just know that it is very, very hard to listen to. I hope I never hear this narrator again.
I read the reviews of this book and thought long and hard before I bought it. Most reviews trashed this title. After listening to Secret Honor I can't..Show More » imagine why. Most said just rehash of the 2nd book. I didn't think so. I thought it was a continuation of the story line. I will give you this Scott Brick is 1000 times better narrator than the narrator for the 2nd book in the series. Scott makes this book come alive. My wife doesn't much care for audio books but she was listening to this title on a recent car trip with me. I was almost finished with less than an hour left. When it was finished she said "Oh no" he didn't finish the story line. To me that was one of the greatest things she could have said. I love cliff hangers and W.E.B. Griffin is a master of story lines and cliff hangers. A lot of great authors carry their characters from one book to the next and a lot of times refer back to previous titles. Griffin continues the story line from one book to another. To me that is what makes Griffin one of my favorite authors.
Yes there are a lot of characters in this story, but each one is fleshed out to be a complete person. Granted, I did get a little confused with the co..Show More »de names Teapot, Teacup, etc., but it fit the plot. The base story is not that complex but the interaction of the characters requires the listener to pay attention.
My only complaint is the fact that Audible refuses to indicate the numerical sequence of books in a series. Had I known I missed one of the series I would have bought it first. Audible just lost a sale because I won't read a story backwards.
This is a wonderfully entertaining addition to the extremely enjoyable OSS series. The author(s) rank at the top of the military-historical fiction ge..Show More »nre and this story continues the well-deserved legacy. Scott Brick is one of my favorite narrators possessing a polished ease of delivery that makes any story he reads come to life. This is, as I had hoped for and expected, another carefully researched and detailed narrative. The characters are tightly and skillfully interlaced with the actual historical timeline. I was extremely pleased with the story, the excellent quality of the audio production and Mr. Brick's exceptional skills as a narrator. Highly recommended and a must-read for W.E.B. fans.
