In the genre of telling the back-story to childhood classics this tale is tops! Ever wonder HOW Peter Pan came to be a flying boy? Or WHERE Tinkerbe..Show More »ll came from? Or WHY Captain Hook despises Peter Pan? This is the first book in the brilliant trilogy by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson that answers these questions and more. The story is fun, inventive and fast-paced; taking you from the docks of London, to the storm-tossed highs seas to a far away island. Jim Dale's perfect narraration is as good as the award winning performances he gave in the Harry Potter series. This is, simply, one of the best audiobooks we own. When we have nothing else to listen to we grab this one - again! My two girls 9 and 10 never tire of hearing the adventures of Peter and Molly!
"Peter and the Shadow Thieves" picks up where "Peter and the Starcatchers" left off, assuming that the listener knows about Peter's previous adventure..Show More »s; so one needs to listen to the two books in sequence. Both books provide us the prequel to J. M. Barrie's "Peter Pan," telling us how Peter acquired the ability to fly, where Tinkerbell came from, how Peter met Captain Hook, and how he came to live on Mollusk Island with the Lost Boys. Only Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson tell Peter's story a whole lot better than J. M. Barrie did. And Jim Dale's narration would justify listening to these audiobooks, even if they hadn't been so well written. In fact, just hearing the masterful Jim Dale imitate the caw of a raven makes "Peter and the Shadow Thieves" worth the purchase price. I recommend this series to anybody -- young or old -- who has an innocent heart, and who can enjoy an adventure story without explicit violence.
This is number three of four full length books (and some shorter books) in the Peter Pan / Neverland prequel series. They are very well written, ver..Show More »y well narrated, and thoroughly entertaining family reading for kids and adults.
I am so excited about this new book. I thought after the last in the series the authors were done with it. I am in my 20s and still think this series ..Show More »is awesome. Jim Dale is the best narrator around. I was just looking through to see what he had narrated lately and came across this great book. I hope Mr. Barry and Pearson keep pumping these out. I for one will buy every one of them.
