State of Fear is a superb blend of edge-of-your-seat suspense and thought provoking commentary on how information is manipulated in the modern world. From the streets of Paris, to the glaciers of Antarctica to the exotic and dangerous Solomon Islands, State of Fear takes the listener on a roller-coaster thrill ride, all the while keeping the brain in high gear. 

Jack Tagger is a frustrated journalist. His outspoken views have relegated him to the obituary page, and his paper's owner has decreed that his by-line will never again grace the front page. But Jack has stumbled across a peach of a story. James Stomarti, rock musician extraordinaire, has died in a diving accident, and whilst researching the obituary, Jack realises that his glamorous widow may have had a vested interest in her husband's untimely death.

Deep in the middle of the Nevada desert, the Xymos Corporation has built a state-of-the-art fabrication plant, surrounded by miles and miles of nothing but cactus and coyote. Eight people are trapped inside because outside, waiting for them, looking for them, is a self-replicating, fast-evolving swarm made up of predatory molecules that they themselves created. On a singular level, the molecules are seemingly harmless, but massed together, they form an intelligent organism that is anything but benign. They must find a way to stop this creature before it gets inside.

Expert satirist Benjamin Cheever, author of Famous After Death, uses his dark sense of humor to deliver another searing look at suburbia. Literary editor Stuart Cross and his wife Andie, a film critic, hire the talented Louise to be nanny to their two young girls. Louise’s perfection, however, begins to irritate the ambitious, but less accomplished Stuart and Andie, and soon the parents’ jealousy gets the better of them.

Barry spent time in jail for being accused of the crime of raping an underage girl, who played him for a fool. He meets Patsy, who gets him a job by falsifying documents for him. While dating learns that she was the town whore, so breaks up with her. He then meets Lisa, a successful real estate agent. While dating, they run into Patsy who reveals his past. Lisa runs off and is killed. It seems that no matter what Barry does, Patsy keeps resurfacing...until one day she meets her demise.
