Samskara has attained iconic status in the pantheon of Kannada literature. It is hailed as a unique literary piece in the Navya tradition. Maasti was one of the first writers of modern Kannada literature, and Is known to most of his readers through his short and long stories, and novels. He was honoured by Sri Jayachamraja Wodeyar, the Maharaja of Mysore, with the title, Rajasevaprasakta. Maasti Venkatesa Jeevan Karyalaya (MVJK) Trust is the caretaker of his legacy today. MVJK Trust has brought out his writings in 100 short stories in five volumes. One long story and nine short stories have been collected in this volume.
