There are few characters in literature more iconic than J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan, the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up. Originally introduced in 1902 in another Barrie novel (The Little White Bird), Peter's story was expanded as a standalone novel in 1911 and since then has been memorably adapted for the movies, for television, and for stage.
Now, actress Lily Collins (The Blind Side, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones) brings new, youthful energy to Peter's magical adventures.
"Fun Story, but Jim Dale is Far Better..."
When Peter Pan appears in Wendy, John, and Michael's nursery one night looking for his lost shadow, he tells them of a magical place: Neverland - a land of fairies, mermaids, and pirates, where nobody ever grows up. Wendy has always wanted to see a mermaid, so this gives Peter a marvelous idea. Wendy can come back to Neverland to help take care of him and the lost boys. Just a few happy thoughts, a sprinkling of fairy dust, and away they go.

The story of Peter Pan is all that you imagine it will be - and so much more. While narrating this delightful audiobook, I was struck by both how similar it is to the beloved stage musical (I've always wanted to play Peter, and this was my chance! - well, without the flying) and also by how much deeper the narrative goes - if you wish it to. It made me think about the joys and losses of growing up, the darker side of children ("gay and innocent and heartless"), the power and depth of parental love, and the secret kisses we all keep inside that only someone special can unlock.
