  • Day 299 | Nebuchadnezzar II conquers Jerusalem | Titus: An Introduction
    Oct 26 2025

Day 299 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. Jeremiah 52 offers a detailed account of the fall of Jerusalem to the Babylonians. King Zedekiah tried to flee but was captured, then had to watch his sons get executed before getting his eyes gouged out (yikes!). Afterward, he was chained and dragged off to Babylon. The chapter then goes into specifics about the number of people exiled and the items taken from the temple. It's basically a "last episode" recap of the temple's destruction and the tragic consequences of ignoring prophetic warnings.

Paul, identifying himself as an apostle and servant of God, writes a letter to Titus, whom he refers to as his "true son in our common faith." He greets Titus with wishes of grace and peace. The purpose of the letter is to guide Titus in organizing and overseeing churches in Crete. Paul provides guidelines for selecting church leaders, emphasizing they must lead blameless lives and hold true to solid doctrine to guide others and rebuff those who contradict the teachings. He mentions some disruptive individuals in Crete, particularly some of the Circumcision Party. He stresses the importance of rebuking and correcting these false teachers.

  • Day 298 | The Lord speaks against Babylon | 2 Timothy: 4 Paul faces death
    Oct 26 2024

Day 298 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. This portion of Jeremiah continues God's declaration against Babylon. The Lord, the Creator of all, will bring punishment to this mighty empire. Babylon's waters (representing its strength) will dry up, and it will become a desolate, uninhabitable wasteland. The people of Israel and Judah, whom Babylon once took captive, will return to their land, while Babylon will face its downfall for its arrogance and cruelty. The chapter ends with a symbolic act: Jeremiah instructs Seraiah to read this prophecy when he reaches Babylon and then throw the scroll into the Euphrates River, symbolizing the sinking and utter destruction of the city. In 2 Timothy 4, Paul tells Timothy to always be ready to talk about his beliefs, no matter what. He says a time will come when people will only listen to what they want to hear. Paul tells Timothy to stay strong, face tough times, and do his job well. Thinking about his own life, Paul feels he's near the end and believes he's done his best. Even though some friends left him, he's comforted knowing God's always there. Paul wraps up by saying hello to some pals and really hopes Timothy can visit him soon.

  • Day 297 | The Lord punishes Babylon | 2 Timothy 3: People will stop loving God
    Oct 24 2025

Day 297 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. Jeremiah details Babylon's impending doom, with enemies coming to punish them for their wickedness. Despite their strength and past victories, Babylon will face a downfall so complete that no one will ever live there again. The nation that was once a golden cup in God's hand, leading others astray, will now face retribution.

Paul warns Timothy about difficult times in the last days when people will be selfish, greedy, boastful, and against God. They'll look religious but deny the true power of godliness. Paul tells Timothy to steer clear of them. He then contrasts this with his own faithful example and the persecutions he endured. Paul emphasizes the importance of the Scriptures – given by God and super useful for teaching, correcting, and equipping believers for every good work.

  • Day 296 | The Lord judges Edom, Elam, & Babylon | 2 Timothy 2: Soldiers for Christ
    Oct 23 2025

Day 296 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. God reveals that various nations, including Ammon, Edom, and Damascus, will face their comeuppance for past misdeeds. Even the mighty Babylon, once God's tool for punishing others, is not exempt and will be shattered. It's a reminder that no nation is beyond the reach of divine justice, and those who oppress will eventually face consequences.

In 2 Timothy 2, Paul dishes out some solid life and ministry advice to Timothy. He tells him to be strong and to pass on the teachings to trustworthy people. Using analogies, Paul highlights the dedication needed in serving God, comparing it to the discipline of soldiers, athletes, and farmers. There's also a heads-up to avoid pointless debates, which only lead to chaos. And, in times of doubt, he reminds Timothy of the solid foundation of God's truth.

  • Day 295 | God judges Moab for worshiping Chemosh | 2 Timothy: An introduction
    Oct 22 2025

Day 295 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. We dive into prophecies concerning Moab and Ammon, neighbors of Israel. Chapter 48 is all about Moab. Jeremiah announces its impending doom at the hands of Babylon. Despite Moab's pride and its trust in its fortresses, the nation will be devastated, and its people will wail. Yet, there's a glimmer of hope as God promises to eventually restore Moab's fortunes. The start of Chapter 49 focuses on the Ammonites. They're called out for seizing Israel's land, but just like with Moab, Babylon's going to give them a hard time. Yet again, amid the doom and gloom, God promises a future restoration for Ammon.

In 2 Timothy 1, Paul starts off with some warm vibes, expressing his longing to see Timothy and reminiscing about Timothy's sincere faith, which he first saw in his grandma Lois and mom Eunice. Paul then reminds him to fan the flame of the spiritual gift God gave him and not to be ashamed of the testimony about the Lord. Paul emphasizes the power, love, and self-discipline God offers, rather than a spirit of fear. He also mentions some friends (and not-so-friends) in passing, giving us a bit of a peek into early Christian social dynamics.

  • Day 294 | God sends a message to Egypt and to the Philistines | 1 Timothy 6: True Riches
    Oct 21 2025

Day 294 of the One Year Audio Bible Podcast. We get a dive into prophecies about nations other than Israel. Chapter 46 is all about Egypt. Jeremiah predicts Egypt's defeat by Babylon at the battle of Carchemish and further invasions that'll hit Egypt. Despite their mighty army, Egypt's gonna have a tough time. Chapter 47 pivots to the Philistines, especially their main city, Gaza. The prophecy here? A flood of invaders (Babylon) will come from the north, causing widespread destruction. In 1 Timothy 6:3-21, Paul drops some wisdom about the dangers of loving money. He starts by calling out anyone teaching false doctrines and then dives into the classic line, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil." He warns that this desire has led many away from the faith. But Timothy? He's told to flee from these things and fight the good fight of faith. Paul urges him to keep the commands without spot or blame until Jesus returns. The chapter ends with instructions for the rich to be generous and for Timothy to guard the faith, avoiding godless chatter.

  • Day 293 | People of Judah worship the Queen of Heaven | 1 Timothy 5: Widows, Elders, & Slaves
    Oct 21 2024

Day 293 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. After having explicitly been told by God through Jeremiah to stay in Judah, a group, including Jeremiah and Baruch, is forcibly taken to Egypt by some rebellious folks. Once in Egypt, Jeremiah warns that Babylon will conquer Egypt and that they'll face the same woes they ran from. Chapter 45 focuses on a personal word from God to Baruch, basically telling him not to seek great things for himself because tough times are coming. In 1 Timothy 5-6:2, Paul provides Timothy with guidelines on how to relate to various church members. He gives advice on treating older men and women respectfully, supporting widows who genuinely need help, and ensuring elders who do their jobs well are valued. He then warns against younger widows becoming idle and gossipy. Moving on to 6:1-2, Paul tells slaves (or servants) to respect their masters, especially if they're believers.
