Correction…

The Enola Gay only dropped Little Boy, not both bombs. The Bockscar dropped Fat Man.

Questionable Conclusions

The author presents some facts without full context such as the numbers of troops and planes on Kyushu prior to Operation Downfall. The missing context is that these "troops" were far from the best and by that time in the war Japan had almost no experienced pilots or aviation fuel so the number of planes they had was not cery meaningful. Indeed his point in the following chapter is that to deliver an atomic bomb by airplane, you first must have complete air superiority over the target, which the US clearly had, so his "facts" seem a little fast and loose in order to fit predetermined ideas.
