Featured in this edition: The legend of El Chupacabras (translated as 'the goat-suckers) began in about 1992, when Puerto Rican newspapers El Vocero and El Nuevo Dia began reporting the killings of many different types of animals, such as birds, horses, and as its name implies, goats. At the time it was known as El Vampiro de Moca since some of the first killings occurred in the small town of Moca. While at first it was suspected that the killings were done randomly by some members of a satanic cult, eventually these killings spread around the island, and many farms reported loss of animal life. The killings had one pattern in common: each of the animals found dead had two punctured holes around their necks. Soon after the animal deaths in Puerto Rico, other animal deaths were reported in other countries, such as the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Panama, Peru, Brazil, the United States, and, most notably, Mexico. Descriptions of the physical appearance of each specimen can resemble descriptions of other specimens or differ from other descriptions. Although they have different appearances, El Chupacabras are typically 3 feet or taller, they are roughly humanoid in shape as they are bipedal with 2 arms and are described as otherworldly creatures. Featured in this edition: Is there a U.S. military and/or government conspiracy concerning the existence of Bigfoot? Over the years, I've received many inquiries concerning my Bigfoot incident on May 9, 1981, near Sykesville, Maryland. Honestly, I've had a few lingering questions about my sighting also. In particular, 'What did I encounter? Was it Bigfoot, or something else?' I called it ‘Bigfoot' because that was the only way I could have described it. It wasn't human. It wasn't an ape. I have tried to comprehend exactly what it was that I encountered. One of the constant questions I have received concerns the quick reaction by officials after my phone call to the local police. I feel that this being had been under close surveillance during the morning I witnessed it. I found out later that another witness called the police after seeing a hairy hominid approximately 3 hours before my encounter (near Marriotsville, Maryland, a few miles downstream from my location). I have made FOIA inquiries to all the local, state & federal agencies that I feel were involved that day. No information has ever been forwarded to me. In European folklore, it is a human who turns into a wolf at night and devours animals, people, or corpses but returns to human form by day. It is said that some werewolves change shape at will; others, in whom the condition is hereditary or acquired by having been bitten by a werewolf, change shape involuntarily, and under the influence of a full moon. In French folklore, the werewolf is called Loup-Garou. France was particularly afflicted with reports of them in the 16th century, and there were many notable convictions and executions of Loups-Garous. The werewolf phenomenon may have a medical explanation. Take Peter the Wild Boy, for instance. In 1725, he was found wandering naked on all fours through a German forest. Many thought he was a werewolf or at least raised by wolves. Research has shown Peter likely had Pitt-Hopkins syndrome, a condition discovered in 1978 that causes a lack of speech, seizures, distinct facial features, difficulty breathing, and intellectual challenges. Throughout the centuries, people have used werewolves and other mythic beasts to explain the unexplained. In modern times, however, most believe werewolves are nothing more than pop culture horror icons, made famous thanks to Hollywood’s versions of the Wolf Man, who was portrayed by my namesake Lon Chaney, Jr. Still, werewolves have a cult following.
