  • Winslow Township Fire Department closing 3 volunteer firehouses due to staffing issues
    May 16 2024

The fire department in Winslow Township, Camden County is consolidating three of its volunteer fire stations into one.

Fire Chief Marc Rigberg said the department is dealing with “critically low” volunteer staffing. The department is made up of a combination of volunteer and paid firefighters. At one point, he said the township had 140 volunteers among nine stations. Now, it has 35 active volunteers among four stations, and only 24 of them are considered “fully qualified.”

Rigberg said Tansboro, Albion and Elm stations will close by Dec. 31 and merge with the Cedar Brook Station. The department will hold community meetings to explain the plan further. The dates of those meetings have yet to be announced.
