Editorial Review

Is he or isn't he?
In the past few years, true crime has shifted its fascination from serial killers to con artists. And why not? To those of us prone to self-doubt, the idea of committing 100 percent to living a lie is almost as alien as burying bodies in the basement. Consider the strange case of Nicholas Rossi, who US authorities allege fled rape charges by faking his death and assuming the identity of an Irishman named Arthur Knight. If you were such a person, how much confidence would it take to go on the record for the podcast of a dogged local journalist, telling your wild tale in an accent UK ears are already hyper-attuned to analyze for clues? Or maybe, just maybe, you’re telling the truth. This shocking story—sensitively reported, with a warning for sexual violence and domestic abuse—had me riveted. —Kat J., Audible Editor

Captivating story

This had me hooked from the very first episode. The ending was a bit of a letdown but it's still worth a listen just to witness the tenacity of the journalist who created it. You can hear the sincerity in her voice and it makes you want to keep listening. She makes you feel like you're there with her tracking leads and finding evidence.

Entertaining

Came here after seeing the dateline episode. “Take your mask off!” is the triumphant moment of the podcast. My question is how difficult can it be to match the identity of a person who was arrested in both the US and the UK with finger prints? And the UK authority can certainly verify his tattoos and teeth gap in prison.

Good, but...

I loved the story but I didn't care for the hysterics. I felt like she was wayyyy too emotionally involved. The "take off your mask" scene and the "you will not manipulate me anymore" made her almost (almost) unlikable. Luckily, the rest was great. She told the story really well. Captivating from the very beginning. Thank you!

Loved it.

Great story, well told. It’s quite laughable and fascinating. I reviewed the last episode instead of the whole series, so resubmitting this.

Good for any true crime or true mystery fan.

Lil Rhody Mystery

I Am Not Nicholas is a fantastic true crime podcast. It is exceedingly well produced and fast-paced. I greatly admired Jane MacSorley’s investigation. I finished the series in a day! As a native Rhode Islander, it was an especially interesting listen. My only complaint is that it came to a quick conclusion (semi-cliffhanger) as the case of Nicholas Rossi/Arthur Knight is still pending!

Really interesting interviews!

I didn’t really buy that the narrator originally believed the subject’s story, but other than that I found this podcast very enjoyable and I am impressed that they interviewed the subject themselves

A lot to like

It’s a fascinating story and extraordinarily well told.
I just wish writer/reader Jane MacSorley hadn’t inserted quite so much of herself….or maybe we needed much more. This part reportage, part incomplete personal essay just didn’t wow me. It could have.
