Mark McCann is the new Director of Recruitment at the East Valley Institute of Technology in Mesa, Arizona. As a former high school math & Spanish teacher and basketball coach, Mark specializes in building relationships and communicating with students about the educational opportunities available to identify their passion and pursue a career. With the efforts of Mark and the recruitment team, enrollment at EVIT's 50+ secondary and post-secondary programs have doubled in the last 3 years to over 7,000 students for the 2024-25 school year.

Colleen is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Families Empowered, a Texas based parent service organization. Colleen is a former public-school teacher. She has a BA in public policy, an elementary teaching certificate, and a MA in Education Leadership and Administration. She was a 2013 LEE Emerging Political Leadership Fellow and a 2017 Pahara-Aspen Fellowship recipient. Colleen served on the Advisory Board of the Rice Educational Entrepreneurship Program at the Jones School of Business. She is a member of the John Cooper School Booster Club Board, serves on the Advisory Board of the Thrive with Autism Charter School, and she and her daughter are active participants in The Woodlands TX chapter of National Charity League. Colleen is the proud mother of two very active teenagers. My name is Ashley Jefferies and I am an author, speaker,parenting coach, wife, and mother to an amazing 11 year old son. In my career as a speech-language pathologist, I have always enjoyed working with children and watching them succeed. Equally important, I have enjoyed working with various families, supplying them with knowledge and skills to help with their child’s development.

Later in life, I went back to school and received a second master’s degree in educational psychology. The knowledge I gained from my studies prompted me to write a book geared towards parents and caregivers of children that highlights the needs of children that sometimes go unmet and some of the potential consequences when important needs are not met. I have a passion for children, and I understand that setting children up for success later in life begins in the home. My desire is to assist parents in going beyond simply providing the basic needs of food, clothing, and shelter for their children. I want parents to meet the unspoken needs of their children as well.

Working in home health and Greenville County Schools as a speech-language pathologist has taught me a lot about the impact a child’shome life can have on future success. It is vitally important that we asparents strive to provide a home environment that allows our childrento grow and flourish. That is the reason I wrote the book Protecting Your Greatest Investment: Investing in the Needs of Children and started Flourishing Futures: “Empowering Your Child for Lifelong Success,” a twelve-week group/individual coaching program for parents of children ages 5-12. Through research and experience, I wanted to offer resources to assist parents as they navigate the challenges of parenthood and strive to provide the best possible home environment for their children to be successful.
