Ep 11 - How To Enjoy A Wealthier, Happier and Healthier Life

  • Summary

  • Andrew Bridgewater, Chartered Psychologist reviews an excellent book titled 'Die With Zero: Getting All You Can From Your Money and Your Life'.

The first part of the title ‘Die With Zero’ is a little provocative as that’s not really the aim of the book.

The main purpose is to help you appreciate that health is the first wealth and that happiness and health are key to feeling truly wealthy – not how much money you’ve accumulated in your lifetime.

It’s a thought-provoking life-planning guide that challenges conventional notions of retirement and wealth management. The book urges us to rethink our approach to money, emphasising the importance of optimising life experiences and creating happy memories, rather than accumulating excessive wealth for the future. These created experiences and memories are what we really retire on and the definition of true wealth.

Bill Perkins proposes a dynamic philosophy of "timing your life's expenditures," encouraging us to strategically spend money on experiences, adventures, and opportunities throughout our lifetime, rather than postponing them for ‘retirement’.

He advocates finding the right balance between enjoying the present and securing our future.  I’m not a big fan of full-blown retirement – seen too many people yearn for it and then die within a few years.

The book suggests creating a "Bucket List" of desired experiences, each with a financial cost, and then allocating funds accordingly. By doing so, we can maximize enjoyment of the experiences we desire and enjoy a sense of fulfilment at various life stages.  If you’ve seen the film with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, you’ll be familiar with the idea of the bucket list.

"Die with Zero" challenges the common notion of delaying gratification for retirement and prompts us to reassess how we allocate resources to make the most of our lives. It's a call to action to live purposefully, spend wisely, and prioritize experiences that enrich life's journey.

What a great philosophy!  Let me know what you think of it and maybe get hold of the book or audio version and put it to practice in your own life.

I’m opening the doors to 5 special people who’d like to be coached by me personally and squeeze the juice out of life. It’s a special offer too - £597 or $750 for 4 60-minute Zoom sessions (normally £997 or $1250) to include recordings if you want them (for even more insights) and lifetime access to all of my online courses and audio books.

Just email me by the end of Sunday 27th August 2023 andrew@andrewbridgewater.com to secure one of the 5 special offer places and experience wealth, happiness and health on a whole new level.
