  • Cinema Stories with James King and guest Steven Woolley
    Oct 30 2019
Episode Six. Any movie fan will know Steven Woolley. As a producer of 'The Crying Game' and 'Carol' he’s a multiple awards nominee, whilst his distribution company Palace was an eighties phenomenon, releasing films by the likes of David Lynch and the Coen Brothers. But he started out working in London cinemas, first as an usher then as an owner. No better person, then, to talk us through his three favourite places to watch movies, including an LA hotspot famous for 40 years of its regular screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Are you ready to do The Timewarp?

Episode Five. The super-cool movie journalist Rhianna Dillon joins us this episode of Cinema Stories, relaying tales of Brighton movie visits, a mishap at an East London pop-up and that miserable bunch of old men better known as ‘film critics’. Rhianna’s one of our favourite broadcasters - fresh, funny and forthright. You’re going to love this one.

  • Cinema Stories with James King and guest Gareth Gwynn
    Oct 9 2019

Episode three is here! You’ll have heard comedian Gareth Gwynn on a host of BBC radio shows (R4's 'Now Show', 'Ankle Tag' & his own show on BBC Radio Wales) and now he brings his gags to Cinema Stories for an hilarious journey through his three favourite picture palaces. Not only do you get the lowdown on what’s hot and what’s not, cinema-wise, in the South Wales area, but Gareth also remembers a time watching a movie about volcanoes in a strange man’s garage. In Iceland. What other podcast gives you all that?!

    Oct 2 2019
In our second episode it’s the renowned journalist Miranda Sawyer talking us through her three favourite cinemas (James has been a fanboy of her writing since the days of the legendary Smash Hits magazine). She kicks things off in her home town of Wilmslow (yes, home to TV’s 'The Real Housewives of Cheshire'), before moving on to her student years in Oxford and then adult life hanging out at one of the coolest cinemas in London.

  • Cinema Stories with James King and guest Stephen Merchant
    Sep 25 2019
In this, our first episode, we say hi to Stephen Merchant. You all know him, right? He co-created The Office and Extras for the telly, starred alongside Hugh Jackman in Logan and wrote and directed the recent wrestling hit Fighting with My Family. He’s also James’s old mate from university days so they couldn’t help but reminisce about their time as film students. But since the premise of this show is for guests to discuss their three favourite cinemas, Merch also took us back to his childhood as a movie fan in Bristol as well as his current life as avid filmgoer in LA. Some people just seem to have talent coming out of every pore and Stephen’s one of those guys. And as a serious cinéphile he’s also the perfect person to kick things off. Enjoy.
