      "Misrepresentation"
By Grant (Highland, UT, USA) Jan 14, 2005
I can honestly say that this book was a chore to listen to, and the pastor's thick Texas accent made it a painful 5 hours! Make sure you listen to a preview of this book before you buy it. I made the mistake of thinking that this was a book on setting goals, or actually achieving personal greatness. Unfortunately, it was simply a 5 hour sermon. In a nutshell, attitude is everything, and with God's help, you can do anything. No practical steps, no how to's, just "think and it shall be so".

Joel Osteen is a pastor, not a self improvement guru. Maybe you need healing, maybe you need help with your attitude, but that's all you're going to get with this book. I myself am a deeply religious person, and I feel a bit bad about such a negative review. However, I feel like the book was misrepresented a bit by it's description.
Just listen to the preview before you buy it!

An awesome audio book! I highly recommend the audio version or get it in addition to the written book. To hear Joel Osteen read it in person really helps as you can pick up on the tone and feeling he is trying to convey. The topics covered and advice in this book will benefit everyone. Is your life in a mess? Can't figure out why things aren't working for you? This book has the answers for you. Enjoy!

      "No Christ Here"
By David (Atlantic Beach, FL, USA) Feb 1, 2005
If you are interested in a peace and prosperity message you will really like this book. If you are trying to draw near to Christ, don't bother. You won't find Christ here. You could read and listen to Osteen for years and never hear the Gospel of Jesus. Osteen is about positive thinking with religious phraseology. He has found a niche market and is exploiting it for all its worth.

      "Good reminders, but some problems"
By John (SaipanNorthern Mariana Islands) Jan 10, 2006
The book's main message of being positive, is a source of strength. But some parts, such as God assigning preferential treatment to his children in materialistic and lavish ways ( as in his example of being re-assigned a First Class seat on the airplane), gives Christianity the reputation of being a snobbish me-first faith. This is contrary to the scriptures where our blessings are heavenly treasures instead of earthy ones. Joel seems to have forgotten the verses such as "the last shall be first and the first shall be last" which cultivate a spirit of humility and hope in the eternal rewards which are worth far more than anything this life can offer. And one has to ask the question, "What about those who are not traveling a First Class lifestyle?" Are they somehow less preferred by God? These are the dangerous implications of a prosperity gospel. But the book did have a lot of good reminders of being positive and I give it three stars because of that!

      "Life changing, positive message"
By Willard (Andover, MA, USA) Jul 31, 2005
The author encourages us to expect more out of life, as God intended us to prosper and to be happy. His southern pastorial voice is calming and leads us to listen to his message of health and wealth.
There is so much negativism in this world, Joel is a breath of fresh air and made me realize that I don't have to feel guilty when I am successful or damned when I have struggles. Pastor Osteen pleads with the reader to not only seek the best, but to plan for the highest goals. He tells us that God's plans for us are far greater than we can even imagine, so he asks: why do we expect so little? Although I have countless books on my IPOD, I find myself regularly listening to Joel Osteen for encouragement and confidence that I am right to expect the best in my life. I cannot recommend this book more highly!

      "great book"
By Julie (Lake Bluff, IL, USA) Jan 29, 2008
I have listened to this book at least three times and I know I will continue to listen to it. It is great encouragement and Joel delivers the message wonderfully. No matter your lot in life there isn't anyone that couldn't enjoy or deserve a little encouragement and this is a great place to get it.

      "Inspiration Abounds!"
By Andrew (Grosse Ile, MI, USA) Mar 31, 2005
Joel Osteen is a gifted preacher and storyteller. He does a great job in his sermons and really can capture an audience while preaching. He truly will help the current and next generation into accepting Christ and learning about the church.
The book overall was decent, though at times I sort of questioned his scenarios...they almost seemed too coincidental in making his point.
An example: He talks about walking in his neighborhood with his wife, Victoria and walking into a house that was being built and feeling inspired that one day he will live in such a house...so, he felt comfortable walking into a strangers house that was being built w/ his wife??? As a preacher or heck, as a human being, wouldn't he feel guilty about trespassing on someone's property?
But overall, an inspiring story. I don't believe his accent is too thick at all and overall was easy to follow. I listen to the final disc over and over about how we really need to do our best in life and God will handle the rest. Good job!

      "Your Best Life Now"
By Amelia (Little Rock, AR, USA) Feb 5, 2005
I'm not a "Self Help Book" kind of person but this book is GREAT! This book will change your thinking, your attitude, YOUR LIFE! Joel made me reevaluate my relationship with God and gave me a totally new perspective about where I am, where I want to go, and how God is going to help me get there.
