  • The Middle Way: The Story of Buddhism
General interest in Buddism has never been higher. The story and teachings of a man who lived 2,500 years ago have a special resonance for us today, perhaps because he taught a way of life that was not based on belief in a creator god but rather on personal experience. "Test my words for yourself," he said. But what lies behind those distinctive images of the Buddha, seated with unshakeable poise, with eyes half-closed and a slight smile? How did Buddhism develop? And where does Zen fit in?
  • The Power of Positive Confrontation: The Skills You Need to Handle Conflicts at Work, at Home and in Life
When slighted, misunderstood, cut-in-front-of, annoyed, taken advantage of, or treated rudely, most people avoid their bosses, ignore co-workers, change hairdressers, complain to friends, shout and pound their fists. They often miss the most positive, effective alternative of all: confronting positively. Now, for everyone who was never taught, or never realized, that between "bully" and "wimp" is a range of behavior that is positive, dignified, and effective for dealing with life's bothersome situations.

Publisher's Summary

When Frank Abagnale trains law-enforcement officers for the FBI's National Academy about identity theft, he asks agents for their addresses and nothing more. The next day, he returns with everything he would need to steal their lives: Social Security numbers, dates of birth, current salary, checking account numbers, the names of everyone in their family, and more. This illustrates how easy it is for anyone from anywhere in the world to assume your identity and, in a matter of hours, devastate your life in ways that can take years to recover from.

Considering that someone in the U.S. is victimized in this way every four seconds, Stealing Your Life is the reference everyone needs, by an unsurpassed authority on the latest identity-theft schemes.

    "Absolutely Eye Popping"
By David (Tucson, AZ, USA) Jan 29, 2008
This is not just eye-opening, but eye-popping as it will scare the heck out of you just how easy it is for someone to steal your personal identity.

Obtaining your social security number, birth date, mother's maiden name, address, demographic data... to take out a loan against your mortgage, use your credit card or even acquire one in your name, use your SSN to make themselves money while leaving the taxes to you, gain access to the money in your bank accounts, and soooo many more... has become absolutely trivial... and done all in your name and at your expense.

This will scare you far more than any Steven King novel, and tell you how to reduce your risk.

    "READ" IT!

    "Want to Be Paranoid?"
By Jason (Palmer, AK, United States) Jun 4, 2007
I found this book to be quite enlightening. At times I found myself getting paranoid about things that I may have done wrong with regards to protecting my identity. Mostly I was pleased with how much I learned about protecting myself in the future and reducing my exposure to identity thieves.

I highly recommend this book to everyone.

    "This book is FANTASTIC!"
By Vikki (WICHITA, KS, USA) Jun 28, 2007
I can't possibly say enough good things about this book. Being a victim of identity theft, as well as my granddaughter is devastating. (A close family member is the perp!)

Had I had this information available to me 2 years ago we would have never been victims to this horrific crime.

I learned a great deal from this audio book. And it is well worth the money spent to purchase it. If you think for 1 second you can't be a victim, think again.

    "Essential Reading for Every Consumer"
By Randy (Port Elgin, Ontario, Canada) Mar 27, 2009
If you have a bank account, credit card, computer or children, then this book is for you. The author both outlines and goes into a fair bit of detail about how identity theft has destroyed lives; and will destroy yours if a thief gets your information. He identifies that all is not doom and gloom, and offers his top 20 methods to protect yourself from this crime occuring and emphasizes that if you don't do it now, before it happens, you CAN'T stop it after it has happened. He clearly explains that financial loss including costs to regain your identity, may not be the greatest cause of pain and suffering from this crime. Financial pain may not even come close to the pain from some of the things that could easily happen to a Identity fraud victim. Some items he mentions are job turn downs, being fired from your present job, being thrown into jail (possibly in a foreign country), loan applications denied and more.

He explains things in simple terms so that an average reader with no financial background can easily understand him. One particular thing I liked is that he gives Web addresses, telephone numbers of agencies that can be contacted for a number of issues like contacting a credit bureau. He keeps the book from being 'a dry read' by using plenty of real life examples of unfortunate people that have been victims of Identity theft.
Raymond Todd does a very good job narrating the book.
