Publisher's Summary

As national spokesman for the Motel 6 chain, as a commentator on National Public Radio's All Things Considered, and as creator of the nationally syndicated radio program The End of the Road, Tom Bodett has a voice familiar to millions. Now you can listen, at your pleasure, to his stories about likable, genuine, slightly wacky people who live in the little Alaska town at the end of the road. Follow the romantic misadventures of sixties throwback Tamara Dupree, vegetarian activist and New Age missionary; join Stormy Storbock and Ed Flannigan on their sightseeing tour across America by fire truck; meet local ne'er-do-well Doug McDoogan, who has a bright new future in the arts. Come to Alaska and share in the emergence of a true American humorist - funny, farcical, nostalgic, provocative, and always touching.

    "Outstanding !"
By Kevin (Cicero, IN, USA) Jun 13, 2004
Tom Bodett is a master storyteller. His character development is deep and thoughtful. While humor is the "bread and butter", he is at his very best when telling a poigiant tale. These often bring a tear to the eye. One feels especially close to his characters, all of whom ended up at "the End of the Road" in Alaska. His wonderful voice and the complementary piano music of Johnny B. make his End of the Road series of audiobooks classics. I can hardly imagine anyone not thoroughly enjoying Bodett's work!

    "Smalltown USA Gossip"
By Dorothea (Willow, AK, USA) Nov 28, 2009
This was like listening to gossip at the bar. Being an Alaskan I was surprised that there weren't more 'Meeting the moose on the way to the outhouse' or ' Mr. Bear steals my tackle box' type stories because those can be really funny and and interesting to tell. Who's sleeping with who or who thinks he's sleeping with who in small town USA just doesn't do it for me. Also, we listened to this as an audio book and there was ALOT of filler music. Not one of my favorites.

"Great Book. Makes me want to emigrate to Alaska"
By Mark (Tacoma, WA, USA) Feb 25, 2005
Tom Bodett has been extremely underrated, although his distinctive voice is everywhere from Motel 6 ads to Saturday Morning cartoons.
If you like Keillor, you'll love Bodett

    "Like friend's you haven't met"
By Daniel (gresham, OR, USA) Apr 19, 2004
Tom Bodett's voice and pace are comforting and very pleasant to listen to. His tales of a Northern Alaskan town are wholesome and entertaining. A slice of life from the end of the road. This is not the typical audio book I tend to choose, but it was a great surprize, I have listened to all of Tom Bodett's books that I have been able to get ahold of and his 'End of the Road' books are the best to be certain.

His gentle calming voice will carry you through the tales and paint pictures so vivid you will almost start packing to move to the wilderness that is the setting for his stories.

Give it a try, I think you might like it.
