Publisher's summary

Set during the time of the New York Times bestseller Powerless, fan favorite Adena gets a story all her own in this captivating novella as she attempts to survive on the streets of Loot…and falls for a mysterious—and dangerous—Elite.

Adena and Paedyn have always been inseparable. Fate brought them together when they were young, but friendship ensured they would always protect each other and the home they built in the slums of Loot. But now Paedyn—an Ordinary—has been selected for the Purging Trials, which means almost certain death.

Now alone in Loot, Adena must fend for herself. After attempting to steal, she’s rescued by a mysterious man from the market. Mak’s shadowy past and secretive power set him apart from the other low-level Elites of Loot. And as the pair team up to see their loved ones before the Trials, the quest tests their loyalty, their love, and their lives.

This novella also includes a special extended teaser to Reckless—the exciting sequel to Powerless!

Heartbreaking

I thought I was mentally prepared for this book…. I was wrong… so wrong… it’s a beautiful story and one I’m glad we get to see unfold. But even though I knew what was going to happen it was still like a dagger to the heart.

Great Story. Love getting A’s side.

This is a great story, especially hearing it from his side. Heartbreaking but so intriguing. Just wish that the female narrator would’ve been better.

The Novella Adena Deserves

Thank you, Lauren! I cannot wait for Reckless! The only reason I gave 4 stars for performance was for Mak’s narrator. When he tries to read bored or dull he just comes across robotic. N’dea is perfect for Adena. Exactly the voice I imagined.

Narrators 😒

It’s nice to have this story but I feel like two high school students were reading to me. Very boring, just reading not preforming.

AMAZING

This book had me sobbing. Even worst when Makoto's voice actor also started to tear up.
Just amazing

Gut wrenching

I didn’t love the male narrators female dialogue portions. The female narrator was age appropriate but the male narrator seemed too old or mature or something. The story however was great. Hearing the story of Adena and how she ended up in the trials was so heartbreaking.

This was so cute 🫶🏻 Criminally short. Heartbreaking in the best way. Adena deserved so much more :,)

Devastated

This is a quick read, but so engaging! It tells the story of Adena during the events of Powerless (book 1). Adena is such a lovable character and we didn’t get enough of her in Powerless so Powerful is for her. I knew what was going to happen based on the ending of Powerless and it did not make it any less devastating. This book had me giggling, falling in love, and desperately hesitating reaching the end I knew was coming.

Kind of disappointed!

I enjoyed the Mail narrator very much! He made you really feel the character. I felt very sorry for Mac because he finally found love and then spoiler alert, lost it! But if you read powerless and you already know that. But when it came to the female narration she was without emotion at all! I literally felt like somebody was telling me a story instead of letting me experience the story when there was motion in a scene she was flat with the way she read, and it just pulled me out of the GraphicAudio does this series I hope GraphicAudio picks this up because Adina deserves better than a flat narrator! The girls dying her friend calls her name and even that’s like just talking to the person next to you, hey how you doing? It wasn’t good narration at all! This girl‘s been reading for audible for other books. Someone might want to talk to her about that because she’s not that good if she can’t put emotion in words, it was too flat! Other than that, the story was good. I gave it an overall four because of the bad female narration.
