Publisher's summary

Immunity. It means a lot to those without it.

Sanctuary does too . . .

Traveling across the country, an arrogant, rude, and ironically immune man's group runs from a government hell bent on stealing his immunity. With millions dead and some of the infected getting smarter, it's all-out war.

When Alcatraz, one of the last bastions of civilization in the United States, comes under attack, some will emerge victorious, and some will emerge infected. Both sets of survivors of the worst plague in history must come together to fend off hordes of the undead and those not dead but no longer human.

Worth a listen

Tough listen to the new narrator. The story was good, but seemed circular. A few cliffhangers and a few twists make it worth while to check out.

Miss Michael Kramer

It’s hard to have a narrator change after several books. While Mr. Waters was a good narrator, I don’t feel he had the same snark and depth of emotion portrayed in the previous books and it really affected the flow of the story. Also, the story was a bit hard to follow as it jumped around quite a bit and nothing much was accomplished. Though enjoyable, it kind of seemed like a placeholder book; however, I still look forward to the next in the series.

Delivery is Everything

Like everyone else has already said the narration is just off. It’s not the narrators voice or the fact it’s different than Michael Kraamers, it’s how he delivers the witty lines, moments of sorrow, anger, female voices, and pretty much everything else. I just couldn’t get into the story and I loved the first 3 books. It’s not a ground breaking amazing zombie series but it was fun to listen to and pretty accurate as far as firearms, gas going bad, and other general things that would happen if society and manufacturing got turned off. One minor firearm issue is them having to replace suppressors so often. Unless the author envisioned them using wipes instead of modern baffle construction then a pistol or submachine gun suppressor will last thousands of rounds before it even must be cleaned let alone discarded. I can see burning though rifle suppressors if they are being made from regular old stainless or alloy steel and not the cobalt, inconel, and other super alloys being used nowadays. But unless you’re running full auto mag after mag they’ll last a thousand rnds before melting. Ok gun nerd rant done.

smart a-- extraordinaire

A continuation of a great series. But the narrator is not a good pick. His voice does not change much and very flat.

Narrator change

Story ok. It's always tough to change a narrator but to go from a ex con, prison inmate to a narrator that usually narrates gay novels was a tough fit.

Good story bad narrator

Like the first 3 books great storyline. But the narrator is different than the first books. His female voices are terrible! Almost annoying enough to stop listening. Also he reads like he just did a line and can’t get the words out fast enough.

Fantastic! Disregard the whiners who..

..complain about the new narrator because Jon Waters may be better than Michael Kramer. I just listened to all 4 books in 2 days at 1.5 speed. (You get used to it very quickly if you’re interested. Start at 1.2 then move up a little at at a time.) I guarantee all the snowflakes whining about the new narration would be singing the exact same tune if Jon Waters narrated the 1st 3 in this series and Michael Kramer narrated the last. Whatever their issues with narration it doesn’t justify the lower reviews. Rich Restucci is a dam* fine ZA novelist and he deserves much better than a 4.2 on this novel. This is a fantastic series and I’m so looking forward to the next installment. Keep up the great work Mr Restucci!!

Narration Is Everything

First off, the story was great where I left off but, I just couldn't stand the narrator anymore. His woman voices were unbelievably annoying. He gave them all a lisp and made them sound like they didn't have a brain cell in their entire body. As for the other male voices, they all sounded like someone trying to sound cool and intimidating while trying to imitate Christian Bale's Batman without ever hearing it. Just holy god it was terrible. I couldn't even laugh because it was so awful. Cats in heat sound better.
Just because the book involves zombies, doesn't mean you should kill your narration too and not in a good way. I really wish Michael Kramer would've been the narrator again. This was a huge punch in between the legs after the 6 year wait for the fourth book. Rich, if you're reading this, It's not on you, dude. You're cool and deserve a waaaaay better narrator than this.
