Publisher's summary

The next thrilling instalment in the Underworld Gods series. Perfect for listeners who want high steam Hades/Persephone and Beauty and the Beast vibes with a dark Nordic folklore twist.

All Hanna Heikkinen wants is to be reunited with her father again. After all, that's why she ventured into the dark and dangerous fantasy world of Tuonela, the Land of the Dead, in order to save his life. But this time her devotion to her father comes at a cost—her growing relationship with Tuoni, the God of Death himself, who held Hanna captive in exchange for her father's life. The last thing she expects is to feel remorse, yet the dark and sexy God is all she can think about.

Death has always prided himself on never trusting the living, but Hanna's apparent betrayal has left a scar fathoms deep. Vowing revenge on his future bride, and making sure she upholds her end of the bargain, Death sets out across his realm to steal Hanna back. But Death and Hanna aren't just fighting each other—malevolent Old Gods are rising to power within the realm, magic is being poisoned, and buried secrets are brought to light, secrets that may cause Hanna to lose everyone she loves dear once again.

Contains mature themes.

the story is great, but the audible....

I absolutely loved the story, but the male narrator sounded like a mix of count Chocula and Captain Kirk (William Shatner version). Speeding it up to 1.5 helped makes it tolerable. Ill be getting the next book when it comes out on kindle, but not sure about audible. Love the plot and spice.

Male Narrator ruined it for me

I really enjoyed the story- but the male narrator overacted every word- and tone and pacing was constently changjng during his parts making it difficult to listen to. I ended up just reading the parts of theale in the kindle book and skipping so I didnt have to listen to him

Amazing Story, Amazing Narration

Some of the best narrators I've ever listened to! They really help get you immersed in this story, and man oh man what a story it is. I love this fantasy series and can't wait for book 3!

Overall, good book

The only negative I have is the narrator for Death. He’s sloooow while talking. I also don’t care for some of the scenes that take place. It’s repetitive and the same type of thing. It gets annoying at times. But, the storyline is decent.

Death and Hanna are absolute perfection however...

Jo Raylan is a fantastic narrator and does a good job as a male voice too. The narrator for death in this book is so terrible, he sounds like he should be a depressed dracula not a vibrant menacing death. I wish they would have just stuck with Jo as the only narrator for this book. Hopefully if they audiobook City of Darkness they won't use the male narrator used in this book.

New fave author

🌶 🌶 🌶 /5
This series got me into Karina Halle and boy am I glad I did, she's quickly become one of my faves! The story is great and I like both the H and h a lot. Female performance is phenomenal, however the male performer spoke very, very slowly for some reason...it didn't work for me.

Death’s narration

Story was great. Jo Raylan was good, but Death’s narration gave me Cheshire Cat vibes, which kinda killed Death’s hotness for me.

No pun intended.

I like the first better I think

the woman who narrated this once again did an amazing job, the man who did .... ahhhh I wasn't a fan. he over dramatized sooo much at such off times I thought.

this story was pure chaos lmao so much went on I felt some whiplash BUT, still a really fun read. one to get into but not take too seriesly.
