Publisher's summary

Life in Paradise isn't what it's cracked up to be. Cara Mia Delgatto feels like she is drowning in problems!

Stuart, Florida. Her ex-husband is refusing to pay their son's college tuition (as promised), her sister is pulling mean pranks, and her old boyfriend has broken her heart . . . again. And that's just the personal stuff.

She's also concerned about keeping the cash register ringing at the Treasure Chest, her store specializing in upcycled, recycled, and repurposed goods.

An important media event goes sadly wrong and Cara's famous temper gets the better of her. Then a prying reporter turns up dead, practically in Cara's backyard. Could the reporter's murder have anything to do with a century's old blot on Florida state history, the infamous Dozier Boys School? Suddenly, Cara's personal problems seem trivial compared to the abuse and murder of hundreds of innocent boys.

Kicked to the Curb

Cara Mia Delgatto has her shop, the Treasure Chest, up & running. She & a couple of friends are hard at work creating special recycled, upcycled & repurposed items for the shop that seem to sell like hotcakes. Another older lady is given the chance to bring in items on consignment that sell well too. They decide to have a grand opening & all goes well, in fact they exceed sales expectations. A retired Florida Senator & his wife even stop by to have a look around. Cara’s grandfather stops by as well & gets into a heated argument with the Senator, accusing him of being a murderer putting a damper on an otherwise great evening. Shortly after closing up, a woman’s body is found in the trunk of a car near Cara’s shop & an investigation ensues. Of course, Cara & her grandfather become suspects again b/c after they both stop by the Senator’s home to apologize, the Senator drops dead. His wife declares that he was poisoned & they are the killers. Getting to know new & familiar characters in this series makes for an interesting read. The usual red herrings are presented along the way as we learn some very disturbing truths about a powerful & wealthy family. A nice listen.
