From fan-favorite Scarlett St. Clair, the bestselling author of the Hades & Persephone series, comes a new fantasy filled with danger, darkness, and insatiable romance.

Their union is his revenge.

Isolde de Lara considers her wedding day to be her death day. To end a years-long war, she is to marry vampire king Adrian Aleksandr Vasiliev, and kill him.

But her assassination attempt is thwarted, and Adrian threatens that if Isolde tries to kill him again, he will raise her as the undead. Faced with the possibility of becoming the thing she hates most, Isolde seeks other ways to defy him and survive the brutal vampire court.

Except it isn't the court she fears most—it's Adrian. Despite their undeniable chemistry, she wonders why the king—fierce, savage, merciless—chose her as consort.

The answer will shatter her world.

SOOO GOOD!!

Gave off a Spicy Witcher Vibe! I loved every second! Scarlett St. Clair does it again! I thought it couldn’t get any better than the Touch of Darkness but WOW!! I definitely was not feeling the male narrator AT ALL!! Thankfully that was just the end

Perfect.

I was worried based on some of the reviews, but this book hit in all the right ways. I usually have a hard time giving something a 10/10 but not this. I only hope the rest of the series holds up to this standard. Specifically I felt Isolde's relationship with her father was refreshing, and her willingness to rule. The cold royal parent and unwilling heir feels like a tired dynamic to me. So much of this book felt rich and new and I absolutely adore Isolde's character.

Narration was also gold standard with the exception of the bonus chapter.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE

This was incredible. So many moments that had my jaw on the floor, I love the female narrator— she encapsulated the fierce, strong, LEADING female protagonist. However the Male narrator sounded like a cartoon character. Luckily, he is only at the VERY end. This was an easy read with light world building and strong relationships. I was consistently trying to guess the next plot twist and thrown for a shock that left me craving more. 10/10

Recommended but Scarlett’s other books are better

In short, I would recommend it if you like Scarlett’s other books, Sarah J Maas, and Jennifer L Armentrout but it’s not the highest on the list.

It was an entertaining high fantasy romance with a potentially great plot but she didn’t do a great job of making you fall in love with the characters as she does in her other books. We don’t have scenes that show the main female character’s compassion or goodness so she comes off as selfish throughout the whole book. Also the main character has tons of thoughts but only says “yes” or “no” to most questions and it’s infuriating. The lack of communication truly was annoying when you get over halfway through the book because you know they should be doing a better job of trying at that point. Also its sometimes hard to tell the difference between the voices of Adrian and Isolde

Predictable but Amazing!

i could see the twist from a mile away, but overall a super cute book and definitely one that I would recommend. At times it is a bit tropey, with predictable twists and turns, but that does not make them any less fun. I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did.

I'll give it a 4 out 5

After completing the book the story felt perfect and well written. Only issue I truly have with it was the hot an steamy scenes lacked any feel out of me and as a new reader I was surprised I can read a sex scene and feel something from it period. lol But nothing in this series tho it's like no build up no seduction just eye contact and it on. Loving where this is going store wise all being said so looking forward to more.

Ummmm

It was a decent book overall. The transition to the plot could of been smoother. The narration was not the best. But overall, it's pretty decent storytelling.

The last chapter 🥴

The book was entertaining. These books are great background stories while I work. But the last chapter was not the right narration. The voices feel like a ninja turtle cartoon scene lmao
