In 1972 rural Georgia, Izella is wise beyond her years, but burdened with the responsibility of her older sister, Ola, who has found out she's pregnant. Their young neighbor, Missippi, is also pregnant, but doesn't fully understand the extent of her predicament. When her father sends her to Chicago to give birth, she meets the final narrator, Susan, who is white and the daughter of an anti-choice senator.

This book focuses on the stories of 4 girls during their pregnancies, their families and how their pregnancies were handled in the 70s....and present day. A story of the love between sisters, best friends, socioeconomic classes....and love found and lost. This book had laughter and tears. Such a great story. Listening to the narration made me feel as though I was watching a movie! I loved how the narrator voiced the characters and gave them each a life of their own. Definitely a great listen and great story! I'll be looking at other books by the narrator and the writer of this book!
