Publisher's summary

Ambushed and left for dead, US Secret Service K-9 Officer Markus York is on the mend and laying low in a safe house while his team tracks down his attacker. Even with his K-9, Ghost, for company, he gets restless and decides now is the perfect time to do some repairs around the house...and inadvertently tears open his wounds.

Fresh out of a bad relationship that ended after a car accident left her with limited mobility, freelance accountant Cassidy Morgan has sworn off men. At least, that's the plan. Until a frantically barking dog leads her to a neighbor's house where she finds a mysterious man out cold and bleeding on the floor...and mumbling things like "no, they'll find me" when she tries to call an ambulance.

Yeah, that's not at all concerning.

Despite Markus' surly attitude, Cassidy senses there's something else at work beneath his rugged, keep-your-distance exterior. Whatever it is, it's sexy as hell.

With someone still trying to kill him, Markus doesn't want an innocent to get hurt, let alone take care of him.

If only the chemistry between Markus and Cassidy didn't explode whenever they were in the same room.

If only Cassidy wasn't a target now, too.

enjoyed the story

the details of intimate moments is so unnecessary and takes away from the actual story. it's a shame that you have to fast forward through a whole chapter just to get back to the story.

Good read

I enjoyed this book. I thought the characters were relatable. I put this in what I refer to as a light read category which means the violence, sex and cussing were kept to a reasonable amount. It was a book I could read before bed and not want to leave a night light on. It definitely falls into the category of a romantic police story so some of my male friends might not want to read it because of the romance and the police scenes aren't overly detailed or graphic, but I would definitely recommend it to my female friends. All in all I thought it was a good read and gave it four stars.

The story line

I love the entire book the special apps parts and the romance. I was kept in suspension on many occasions throughout this book.

Great read!

I really enjoyed this story! It pulled me in from beginning to end. I loved watching these two come together and get to know each other. I really loved Ghost as well, Markus's K-9 partner. Cassidy and Markus were great together and I loved how Cassidy didn't just back down from Markus and once they started to figure each other out, things went pretty smoothly in getting along and helping each other out. Markus is recovering and hiding out from a stabbing that almost killed him due to something connected with his secret service work. They are trying to put the pieces together to figure it out. Cassidy is working on recovering from a horrible car accident that happened a year ago and trying to get her freelance accounting up and running. Cassidy is looking in on Markus and taking care of him and he is helping her with a better rehab plan to get her walking without the cane. I loved the role that Ghost played in the story as well. He was a great character and cute and sweet as well as a cop K-9. There were multiple threads going on in the story in regards to action and suspense and it was weaved together well. The further I got in the story, the more engaged I was. This is probably one of my favorites I've read in the series so far and it is a standalone. You do not need to have read any of the others in order to jump in with this one. I am looking forward to the next one in the series though.
The narrator did a good job with the story and characters.

Love the book but…

The story is great as are all of Tee O'Fallon's books & the narration by Vanessa Daniels is excellent.

My problem is with the actual audiobook file. I purchased the audiobook through Audible Matchmaker hoping that getting it directly from Audible would not have the defect that the downloadable audiobook from the public library has. Unfortunately, every single source has the same defect. I have downloaded the audiobook via Overdrive & listened to the mp3 on my Mac. I have listened via Overdrive in my web browser. I have listened in the Audible.com website in my web browser, I have listened in the Audible app on my iPhone. Every time the narration abruptly ends at the same point.

The narration of Chapter 25 stops in the middle of a sentence. At least 20-30 seconds of narration is missing at the end of the chapter. It ends at "She'd brought that i…" It actually starts the fourth word in that sentence & then Chapter 26 starts. The rest of the book is complete. The publisher needs to fix this problem & re-issue the audiobook.
