Publisher's summary

Comic and television star Tim Conway (McHale's Navy, The Carol Burnett Show, The Apple Dumpling Gang) enjoyed enormous popular appeal, including a wide readership for his best-selling memoir, What's So Funny? In her own humorous, loving, and surprising memoir, Tim's eldest child, Kelly, reveals that the Conway home life was as riotous and engaging as some of her father's best-known comedy sketches. My Dad's Funnier than Your Dad is her love letter to her father and mother, as well as an account of the warm, laugh-filled world in which she spent her childhood.

The book portrays a Cheaper by the Dozen-style upbringing, when she and her five younger brothers spent their lives playing together within a protective cocoon of affection and love. What kind of dad builds his kids a go-cart track in the backyard of his Encino residence by himself, not hiring a crew of professionals to do it? How about a dad who circles the block when his kids go away for our first day in grade school, fretting and fussing that we're okay away from home? What can you say about a famous father who lived not for his celebrity but kept himself firmly grounded in family? While not all puppy dogs and rainbows - the Conways divorced when the author was 17 - this is nevertheless a warmhearted memoir of a man who was as funny off the set as on.

Charming yet heartbreaking story

Kelly told her story with such grace. I would have never imagined that could have happened in their family.

Your dad and my dad, both great men.

I rememer watching Tim on Friday nights and my dad busted out laughing. I think his favorite was when Harvey was in the Dentist chair. He was so great to watch. I miss my dad and your dad Kelly. Thanks for writing the book.

Not Just About Her Dad Being Funny

I don't think my view of this book will be terribly popular, but here it is. This book really needs a different title, because as is, it's rather misleading. Not just about being a funny dad for sure. I found parts of this book to be very sweet, and it made me love Tim Conway all the more. I adored watching him when I was a kid, he brought so much laughter and joy to my life. I loved seeing into his parenting style, which seemed to be filled with kooky fun, kindness and generosity, all while still getting his point across. I assumed this book was going to be mostly about him, but it's really about his daughter and her experiences and perceptions of him. That was fine at first; but to be honest, towards the end of the book I felt like I'd been hit by a bus. I had no idea of the abuse Tim Conway suffered at the end of his life, and if you think abuse is too strong a word, it's not. It just kept getting worse and worse, with his wife and stepdaughter becoming more and more drug addicted, neglectful, inconsistent and unstable, while he was at their mercy. Not at all what I expected. I cant' tell you the sadness and rage I felt trying to get to the end of this book. I understand this is his story and that's what happened, but wow, when I put this book down all I wanted to do was cry. Such a downer. I was so upset my head was pounding. How totally depressing. I thought to myself Karma obviously doesn't exist, what goes around surely does NOT come around, and you sure don't reap what you sow, because this kind, generous, and giving man, who brought countless hours of joy and laughter to the world, who was devoted to his family and his friends, left this world in the most horrific way, at the hands of two people who should have loved and protected him. How is that possible? I just can't wrap my head around it. Not exactly the fun story I was expecting. Now that I know the truth of it, it took something from me, because I will never have that purely joyful experience of watching him perform. I'll forever have this sadness every time I see him, my heart aching because of how despicably he was treated in the end. So for me.... I almost wish I hadn't read it.

Made me cry, Made me laugh!

This book is a must listen! I'm experiencing similar guardian and POA issues with my elderly Dad with other relatives as well so this book resonated with me as Ms. Conway described her immense love for her Dad and Mom at the end of their lives. Tim Conway gifted laughter to the world and its clear his 6 children will carry his legacy of kindness to future generations!

An Extremely Touching Father/Daughter Love Story

As a mother who currently has a similar unexplained situation with my beloved daughter, I cried hearing the unprovoked pain Kelly was caused by someone she once was so close to & the many, many ways she tried to make peace - just to be allowed to take care of her father. I am among the millions of Tim Conway fans & Kelly's story of the last years of his life was tender, frustrating, happy and sad. I applaud Kelly for her courage and I thank her for sharing her memories of this funny, kind man.
