Publisher's summary

Prepare for a cruise like no other.

When an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) strikes Rose of the Sea, the pleasure cruise becomes a drifting nightmare. Powerless and desperate, the 1,100 passengers and crew must face their new reality: No one is coming to save them.

The first mate. The EMP destroys the captain's pacemaker, killing him in a heartbeat and Gunner McCrae is thrust into the top position. But no amount of training could prepare him for the savagery of desperate humans and an unforgiving ocean.

The anchor-woman. Gabrielle Kinsella should be reporting on the headline of the century. Instead she's fighting for her children's lives.

The acrobat. Held captive by a predator as a child, Madeline Jewel found freedom as the ship's acrobatic dancer. But being trapped in an elevator brings her worst fears back to life.

The gambler. Zon Woodrow won his ticket to the cruise in a poker match. With the ship's security system obliterated, Zon turns his attention to the casino's vault. And this time, the house won't win.

As resources dwindle aboard Rose of the Sea, the body count continues to rise. Will ordinary people survive an extraordinary disaster? Or will they drown in darkness?

Ok story

While I liked the premise of the book, there was no point or need for the level of cussing in the book. It wasn’t even just one character but pretty much them all. I’m not sure if I will continue the series. The readers did a great job at voices.

Recommend. SOMETHING Different

I found this a fast pace but through book. it seemed realistic and went into detail of what you might expect on a cruise ship scenario.

Blah-blah-blah-de-Blahbidy-Balh......

My title pretty much sums up this book. The characters aren't people you care live or die except for the girl trapped in the elevator. HER back story is compelling as all get out. Other than that, a book, like a movie, is made up of scenes. Some set tone, others set the scene and all progress the story. The fact that this is a disaster story means I won't be giving anything away if I say imagine the characters being caught in a whirlpool. At some point the reader wants to know what happens when they finally reach the bottom, or the funnel, if you will. Well, this book, with 5 hours left, just keeps spinning and spinning and spinning with more blah-blah-blah than any scene NEEDS.

My outlook on this book may lift beyond the first half. But if the first is any indicator, that's not going to happen. If it DOES, I'll change my review accordingly.

As to the narrators, the man is okay, but the woman reads almost every line of all female cahacters as if she's kneading her fingers with a furrowed brow and it gets tiresome.

Stay tuned for an update if the quality in any three categories shifts.

Not a fan

I was hopeful based upon the reviews but I found this book rather unbelievable. I could not muster up the energy to finish it. I understand we are reading fiction but with the subject matter based in reality (EMP, Cruise ship) I found it extremely far fetched. There was nothing for me to grab on to as a reader. The pacing was not correct in my opinion and the characters needed to be fleshed out more.
