Publisher's summary

The second novel of the Kilo-Five Trilogy by number-one New York Times best-selling author Karen Traviss - part of the expanded universe based on the award-winning video game series Halo!

It's 2553. Welcome to humanity’s new war: silent, high-stakes, and unseen. This is a life-or-death mission for the Office of Naval Intelligence’s black-ops team, Kilo-Five, which is tasked with preventing the ruthless Sangheili, once the military leaders of the alien alliance known as the Covenant, from regrouping and threatening humankind again. What began as a routine dirty-tricks operation - keeping the Sangheili occupied with their own insurrection - turns into a desperate bid to extract one member of Kilo-Five from the seething heart of a brutal civil war.

But troubles never come singly for Kilo-Five. Colonial terrorism is once again surfacing on one of the human worlds that survived the war against the Covenant, and the man behind it is much more than just a name to Spartan Naomi-010.

Meanwhile, the treasure trove of Forerunner technology recovered from the Forerunner shield world of Onyx is being put to work, even as a kidnapped Sangheili plots vengeance on the humans he fears will bring his people to the brink of destruction....

Karen Travis single handedly ruins years halo lore

I have read all the books by Eric Nylund and Karen traviss completely ruins the hard work of the previous authors. The book is filled with constant useless dialogue and the obvious hate for Halsey shows Karen's inability to separate her personal feelings from the story as a writer. I really hope her rights to the Halo series is revoked soon and we can get some better stories

Karen Traviss is a terrible author

Karen Traviss is a terrible author and she has no business writing HALO or Star Wars novels

This book is poorly written, has little to no action and this author goes out of her way to utterly destroy the characters we’ve grown to love (Halsey, Fred, Mendez, Spartan 2s) and introduces a new group of characters that are universally despised that you pray gets glassed

Terrible read by a terrible author

I miss the chief but it's nice to see Spartans

I missed Spartans in the last few books about the Didact and before that about Sgt Johnson. The stories were excellent lore about the halo universe but if you remove the Spartans from it, the remaining intrigue is left on the covenant which developed much slower in the stories than the unsc characters.

Absolutely excellent from beginning to end.

literally my ONLY complaint, and it's minor, is the narrator's insistence on eliminating the letter "g" from words such as "strength" and "length". i know it's petty, but every time he says "strenth" or "lenth", it takes me out of the story for just a moment. It's a pet peeve. Otherwise excellent performance.

An amazing story

Karen Traviss does it again with an action packed story with very enjoyable characters and character development. The narrator euan Morton really improved in this book and helped make me feel so much more invested in these characters and I loved it! Looking forward to more stories involving these two!

Lots of different views

The story jumps around a lot and was a little confusing at first. It takes a little to recognize what’s going on with which characters.

The Kilo 5 trilogy is a mustread if you like halo

The kilo 5 trilogy explains how the new covenant forms and who Jul m'dama is. without it he just becomes a generic big bad evil guy or a lousy Warzone Boss in halo 5. after reading his story you'll see why he hates humans so much. after reading this trilogy you'll have a much greater appreciation of halo 4 and 5 even though halo 5's campaign was a dumpster fire in terms of Johns story. all in all I'll say the story of kilo 5 is on par with fall of reach, first strike and ghosts of onyx.

Despite being written by different authors, the entire Halo series is amazing. Kilo-Five is an awesome trilogy. also love the use of comic relief. Phillis haha

Amazing narrator

I really wish this guy would do more halo books. Don’t get me wrong Scott Briggs is great! But Euan Morton did an amazing job with different accents for the characters giving them a realistic feel! Props on this series! Loved it!
