The causes of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder range from severe neglect to monstrous abuse. Many survivors grew up in houses that were not homes - in families that were as loveless as orphanages and sometimes as dangerous. If you felt unwanted, unliked, rejected, hated, and/or despised for a lengthy portion of your childhood, trauma may be deeply engrained in your mind, soul, and body.

This book is a practical guide to recovering from lingering childhood trauma. It is copiously illustrated with examples of the author's and his clients' journeys of recovering. It is a comprehensive self-help guide for working through the toxic legacy of the past and for achieving a rich and fulfilling life.

A big discovery for me: the intense emotional, debilitating depression, anxiety & suicidality experiences I’d always ascribed to “depression” are flashbacks. I’d resisted a PTSD or CPTSD diagnosis thinking “nah, I don’t have flashbacks - movie style, with a complete scene from the past, so no I can’t really have been that traumatized, I’m just f*caked up and haven’t tried hard enough to get better.” When really, I most definitely have CPTSD, flashbacks are so NORMALIZED for me that I couldn’t see them for what they are.

Knowing this alone is incredibly helpful. Validating.

I’ve been reading self help & spirituality books for over 30 years, on & off. This book is the #1 that literally describes me and my issues, explains them, and provides supports to aid my recovery. Finally, I see a light at the end of the tunnel. I’ll be better than okay, I’ll thrive. I can finally imagine that.

Finally feeling seen and understood

Best book on childhood trauma I’ve ever found. You won’t be disappointed. The material could have been read by a less robotic reader, but it was not bad

Grateful I found this book

Amazing. I identified so much with this information. I helped me to understand myself and why I am the way I am. I’m buying it in paperback to just keep and do the tests.

My new bible
