Publisher's summary

The New York Times best seller - part of the expanded universe based on the award-winning video game series Halo!

It's 2524. Harvest is a peaceful, prosperous farming colony on the very edge of human-controlled space. But humanity has unknowingly trespassed on holy ground - straying into the path of the aggressive, theocratic empire known as the Covenant. What begins as a chance encounter between an alien privateer and a human freighter soon catapults all of mankind into a struggle for its very existence.

But humanity is also currently locked in a bitter civil war of its own: the Insurrection. With resources strained to the breaking point, the ultimate survival of Harvest’s citizens falls to a squad of battle-weary UNSC Marines and their inexperienced colonial militia trainees. In this unlikely group of heroes, one will stand above the rest - a young Marine staff sergeant named Avery Johnson....

A must listen/read if you are a Sci Fi fan.

Description says it all. Great story if you are a halo fan and a great introductory if you are curious about Halo lore.

joe staten knew how to write

some good classic halo action, gives deeper meaning to characters in the trilogy and deepens the conflict. Very enjoyable.

Excellent Story

A good place to start if you don't know where to begin for the War between the Humans and the Covenant. Literally my only hiccup with the book is Holter Graham doesn't really come off as the SSG Johnson, Avery fans of the games and series have come to know (literally through the whole book I was wondering if it was the same Johnson until I had to look it up) but that doesn't mean he does a poor job. His range for giving each character a distinct voice really helps to immerse yourself in the story. 10/10 would recommend.

Love these stories

Even though the game and books were written years ago, I still find them very enjoyable.

Good story

So my first impression is that it’s hard to understand the covenant side of things which is understandable because it’s all non common words but it was good to hear multiple sides of the story arc and my favorite was following Johnson who of course is a star character in the halo series

I think we can all agree Johnson knows what the ladies like

It was a great book that gives so much more lore for a beloved character who was taken out to soon
