Publisher's summary

They say there's no rest for the wicked, and New Orleans never knew how true that was until I came to town.

Nobody told me that when I entered the transition, the very gifts of my demonic lineage would be used against me. Nobody warned me that the flames of hell would burn from within. Or that I'd be driven to lust and madness, my chaotic magic becoming more wild and unruly than ever before.

The only way to save myself - and the world - was to give the beast what she wanted: control.

As if transitioning wasn't enough, my presence was now known, and my enemies were mounting. While the beast was intent on claiming our Four Horsemen, there were things to be done. People to find. Demons to kill.

And when they make a deal with the devil - let's just say that neither world will ever be the same again.

Long live the queen. If I can survive becoming immortal, that is.

Contains mature themes.

The sexual connection

This book basically was about all the sexual bonds she can have with each partner then all of them at once. I would have liked the same story telling with some sex scenes sprinkled in might have been better. Overall this book did not stop me from listening to the final book.

4-4.5 Stars for book 3 of this series

I was happy overall with book 3 of Kel's Queen of the Damned series, some things made me smile and I couldn't stop listening, some things kinda threw me and took me out of the story. I think Ruby and Julian frustrated me the most in this book to be honest. I think the stress with transitioning made it hard on everyone, but when the guys didnt trust her/ignored her and Ruby and the beast subsequently kept running away, it was a tad annoying/frustrating. I thought the sexy times was great, besides some of the things Julian did (I knew he would be more of a Dom, based on his control in previous books, but it wasn't as smooth as I would have hoped). I loved the others in this and it hurt my heart with what Julian had to do to find Ruby and the beast (definitely put him back on my good side after all his bs from other books haha). I was again fascinated by the relationship between Ruby and Moira and Ruby and Bandit. I thought there were some good jokes and snark in this one too, I appreciate Kel kept that going throughout the series. The progression with the plot was sorta out of left field for me, it makes more sense in book 4 but I was kinda taken aback in this one with it.

Narration was good with some of the new characters we meet, but again the Aussie/Brit accent changes kept throwing me. I did think Hollie did a phenomenal job with all the tension, angst, feelings of love, heartache. 4/5 stars for the narration.

Ok, on to book 4! I really hope Kel comes back to this world at some point, I think it could be a lot of fun with all the side characters and additional storylines she could build off of, with some cameos hopefully 😉😁❤️

Ruby is a powerful demon.

Ruby is the star character. She is also the most powerful demon created. But she treated as a kid. Can't wait for to blossom in the future novel's to come. WATCH OUT.

As gripping as the previous two.

This was as good as tghch past two and I can’t wait to see how this ends. PHENOMENAL NARRATION BY HOLLIE JACKSON GIVES THIS BOOK A FLARE THAT KEEPS YOU READING LONG AFTER YOU SHOULD BE GOING TO BED. LOL. WE’RE IN BOOK THREE NOW, AND THESE CHARACTERS ARE SO WELL DEVELOPED, YOU’RE VESTED NOW. I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE WHERE KEL TAKES THIS AND HOW THIS WILL WRAP UP. SEXY, HOT AND ADDICTIVE, IT’S A SERIES THAT WILL PULL YOU IN FROM THE FIRST PAGE. IT HAS REMINISCENCES OF JEANA SHOWALTER, AND NEAL GAIMAN ROLLED INTO ONE. THIS IS THE FUONEST SERIES I’VE READ IN A LONG TIME. IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR DARK, HOT, SEXY FUN THAT WILL HAVE YOU READING UP TO THE VERY END, YOU’LL LOVE THIS ONE. HAPPY READING, AND BUCKLE UP. IT’S GOONA BE ONE HELLUVA RIDE FORSURE.

Whining for sex ….

I waited til I'd listened to all four books..... and, unless you like really funky sex scenes spelled out in great detail … you might want to skip this book and just go to book 4, if you've already listened to 1 and 2 in the series. IThis book mostly consists of the female lead moaning for sex and a lot of in depth descriptions of very funky sex scenes -- multiple partners at a time, multiple orifices at a time -- and the consequences thereof in terms of putting the other characters in danger and in need of rescue -- I have to say, I loved the first two books, if the author had continued on with the same sassy, woman in control, "prove you are worth my affection" attitude, and continued requiring the men to learn to treat her as an adult capable of rational thought and reasoning, and then finished off book 4 with her acceptance of them and the sexual activities, I'd have five starred all four books all around even with the funky submissive sex … luckily, book four completed the series, as I don't think I could have waded through any more "I love pain" comments, whining for sex, biting til the partner bleeds, etc etc to get to the (actually very satisfactory) conclusion of the book series in book 4.

Not continuing the series

The story-line took a turn here, and I'm not sure that I liked it. No, I am sure, that I didn't like it. I feel like this series could have been made into a duet, things seem to be really drawn out and I'm starting to lose interest. Part of that could be the slow-burn, but I read that trope enough that I don't think that's wholly it.

Too cryptic

The skeletal storyline needed a lot more flesh for me to enjoy this. Three books in and there’s barely any explanation of the magic rules, creatures, or point of Ruby and her Four Horsemen. Plot and character movement happens out of nowhere. There’s still no explanation of Ruby’s destiny and what’s supposed to go down when she finally “transitions.” There’s no backstory or personality to like in Ruby or her beast-side, and the only personalities for The Horsemen relate to their bedroom predilections. The final book explains a lot, but by then the huge info dumps feel flat and unearned.

For short, RH novellas, there’s surprisingly sparse, quick, and clunky nooky. Book 1 had 1 handsy scene, book 2 had 2 handsy/mouthy scenes, and this book 3 finally gets to home base and 3 scenes. Book 4, even as the longest book, cuts back on the naughty (unless you count the bits that don’t involve Ruby, which, why would you?) Because of the lack of development in everything else, the nooky (even with all the variety) didn’t do much for me.

Ultimately, great concept, but Ms. Jackson’s narration couldn’t flesh this out enough to get past “okay.”

Not my cup of tea

Characters not well defined and story lacked substance. Some people might enjoy this urban fantasy but I like my stories with more action and less sexual tension.
