Publisher's summary

When Cara felt her teenaged children slipping away and saw an empty nest on the horizon, she decided the best way to fill that void was with dogs - lots of them - and so her foster journey began.

In 2015, her Pennsylvania farm became a haven for Operation Paws for Homes. There were the nine puppies at once, which arrived with less than a day's notice; a heart-worm positive dog; a deeply traumatized stray pup from Iraq; and countless others who just needed a gentle touch and a warm place to sleep. Operation Paws for Homes rescues dogs from high-kill shelters in the rural south and shuttles them north to foster homes like Cara's on the way to their forever homes.

What started as a search for a good dog, led to an epiphany that there wasn't just one that could fill the hole left in her heart from her children gaining independence - she could save dozens along the way. The stories of these remarkable dogs-including an 80-pound bloodhound who sang arias for the neighbors - and the joy they bring to Cara and her family (along with a few chewed sofa cushions) fill this touching and inspiring new book that reveals the wonderful rewards of fostering.

When asked how she can possibly say goodbye to that many loveable pups, Cara says, "If I don't give this one away, I can't possibly save another."

IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE

This book is about a lady that has fostered and saved over 100 dogs. You will laugh and you will cry a lot. It is fiction and if I lived in Maryland I would volunteer for the rescue. If you are not a dog person you won't like this book but I cannot wait for Cara Sue to write another one. And Xe Sands is my favorite narrator so its a win win to me. I hope that you give it a chance!!!!!

Dog Lover's Rejoice

Narration was excellent, it felt like the narrator was the author, she seemed passionate about the story. I enjoyed hearing about the individual dogs and their personalities as well as learning about the challenges and benefits of dog rescue.

A great education on the ups & downs of rescuing

Having owned rescues and working with a local rescue, this book hit very close to home for me. The author does a great job educating those who have no experience or exposure to the dark side of “breeders” and the overpopulation of pets. A very worthy read for everyone who loves dogs (as they should). Ms. Sands is an astounding narrator- I found this book because I stalk her work.

Another good “great” book with a top narrator!!

I originally picked this up because Xe Sands is one of my favorite narrators, it was included on my Audible membership, and I’m a huge dog lover. But I have to say I’ve already recommended this book is so many people! I think it’s really important, not just in what is being said, but also hearing the author’s amazing experiences. And her writing is fantastic! Highly recommend!!!

Great read. Xe Sands was the best choice to narrate this book. A perfect story to listen to while reorganizing my sewing space. Take a walk with my dog. All while learning about the amazing folks who make all the difference in the lives of dogs and those searching for a companion pet.

A well written beautiful story about a family opening their hearts and home

This is a wonderful story of the love that is given and received by fostering dogs. Cara and her family have opened their hearts and home to countless dogs of all ages and sizes, helping them find their forever homes.
Halfway through the book, I messaged Cara to tell her how much I admire her and to say that I didn’t think I could foster because I would fail at it and want to keep the dogs myself. Now that I have finished it, I see and understand how fostering Increases the love we have in our hearts as we share it with others by placing dogs in homes that they might not otherwise find.
