Disappointing story, terrible narrator

I might have enjoyed it a little more if the narrator had not been so awful. I have read the four preceding books. I really liked the first book and, let's say, the others were good enough to continue reading. After this one, though, I don't think I'll bother with The Two ... and The One.... It's minorly amusing but this book goes beyond the ability to suspend disbelief. It's just silly at times. But (of course) Jack saves the world again, so hooray.

The narrator's flat intonation, inability to do different voices and, most of all, mispronunciations drove me crazy and distracted from what enjoyment I got from the book

Suprisingly Not That Great

I'm a big fan of Matthew Reilly and I love all the other Jack West Jr books but this one is oddly not that great. It lacked his usual climactic battle where it seems like all is lost but somehow Jack saves the day. It had battles.. it just lacked some of the normal outstanding suspense. The ending is somewhat disappointing and the book kinda ends on a cliffhanger. The narrator kept mispronouncing words.. this was wasn't up to Matthew Reilly's normal standards. I wouldn't give up on him though.. I'll still purchase the next one the day it comes out.

Matthew, why the profanity ??

I've read / listened to all the Mathew Reilly books... Scarecrow, Jack West and the stand-alones... AND will continue to BUT...

In this one the repeated uses of "the "F" word" kept jumping out. I'm no prude but found it disconcerting. Why? I don't recall that in other Reilly novels. The King of the high adventure genre - Clive Cussler - has always eschewed profanity with his characters. What does it add to the enjoyment of the story?

I think I "like" Scarecrow over Jack West but, again, will eagerly read both... even with the gratuitous profanity.

Enjoyed the story…. But

I enjoyed the story by Reilly a lot. My only problem is the narrator. For some reason, at least 3 different times, his s sounds like screeching or nails on a chalk board. When he start this s sound, he will intermittently say s sound’s correctly and like a screech.

I may need to read the final 2 books if he narrates them.

Simply an amazing story

Matthew Reilly did an amazing job with this one, enveloping myth with history in the world of Jack West Jr. He brought in nostalgia with a twist on traditional perception on these old stories and histories. Thank you Matthew Reilly.

Volume soooo low

I enjoyed the book, narrator was perfectly fine, but the volume for the book is waaaaay too low. Almost returned it as I can barely hear it with headphones on.

Great Story

I enjoy all the Jack West Jr books. I’m not a fan of this narrator though. His voice is all wrong for the character and he speaks too slowly (I do speed up his voice; he’s the only narrator I’ve had to do that with).
I can’t wait for the next story. It’s a bummer my country needs to wait 7 months after the Australian release.

A bunch of cliches strung together.

Not bad but unoriginal. Almost every beat is familiar, as if it written as an homage to other action stories.
