A perfectly proper murder.

When Maddie Kosloski's career flatlines, she retreats to her wine-country hometown for solace and cheap rent. Railroaded into managing the local paranormal museum, she's certain the rumors of its haunting are greatly exaggerated. But then a fresh corpse in the museum embroils Maddie in murders past and present, making her wonder if a ghost could really be on the loose.

With her high school bully as one of the detectives in charge of the investigation, Maddie doubts justice will be served. When one of her best friends is arrested, she knows it won't be.

Maddie also grapples with ghost hunters, obsessed taxidermists, and the sexy motorcyclist next door as outside forces threaten. As she juggles spectral shenanigans with the hunt for a killer, she discovers there truly is no place like home.

This one was good. The heroine was smart, the paranormal museum was interesting and the surrounding characters were unique. It wasn’t very bland, as some cozies can be. I’ll be getting the next!

This book left me curious for more. Still not sure if the museum is actually haunted or if its slightly creepy atmosphere let my imagination balance on the fence that it could be.

This is my first story written Kristen Weiss.
Good story with likable characters.
I did not care for the narrator.

Enjoyable Storyline

Apologies to the narrator, but there were times I wouldn’t have been surprised if AI generated voice was used. Her voice is very pleasant but some of the phrasing and pauses seemed odd and the performance lacked nuance and expression. I’ve listened to many paranormal mystery audiobooks and have found certain narrators more engaging than others

Story enjoyable, narration could be better

I have a little less than 3 hours to go, but I just can't. So far, there have been 2 murders and a false arrest with a subsequent release. That, however, is all that has happened in terms of the mystery. What has taken up all of the time in the book are two major points: 1) the protagonist needs a job. She is always talking about looking for a job. 2) She's not sure if she wants to take over the museum.
Now, both of those are important points. However, they are beaten to death (no pun intended). I got tired of listening about the job hunt all the time. I get you need a job. I got that the first 7 times you mentioned it. And isn't there supposed to be a ghost, maybe? That's been mentioned 3 times. In 6 hours.
This had so much potential. If only we focused on the murders more than the personal job crisis. Oh, and the hot biker guy next door needs more time. Of course, that's probably just me.

it is a good listen and enjoyable, but the writer is obviously unfamiliar with American law and police. that is an annoying point for me, but doesn't take away from the story line. it just is irritating.

I found this book refreshing and interesting! It is a fun, quick read. Plus, there’s a cat.

I liked the way you got to “ know” the characters. The book was well written from beginning to end. Weather was stormy here so couldn’t quit listening until the end.
