Publisher's summary

Fight promoter Zack Grayson is on the prowl for a rising star. As the top recruiter of a prestigious MMA promotion company, he wants to take someone where he will never be able to go again: the top of the professional league. He didn't expect that someone to be the woman he loved...and left.

Top-ranked MMA amateur fighter Shayla "Shilla the Killa" Tanner built walls around her heart when Zack left her seven years ago - and again when her husband turned violent. Now, seeing Zack is nearly enough to send those walls crumbling. But she can't risk the exposure of the limelight, and she definitely can't risk another heartbreak.

As Shayla and Zack grow closer, though, business turns personal. And once their passion unleashes, there's no going back....

Not as intense as previous in the series

I have either read or listened to the audiobook of the previous novels in this series. I was interested in learning Shayla's story since she was the only female MMA fighter among a large den of burly overprotective alpha men. Her backstory was good and gave credence to why she chose the world of MMA. However towards the end the story became convoluted with the ex-husband. First Zack goes looking for the ex-husband and that did not work out well, then the ex-husband comes looking for Shayla and Zack and something happened. Next thing I know there was an epilogue. So either I spaced out when the ex-husband came to the gym for Shayla or something else happened. Overall the story was good. Sarah Castille is a good story teller.

Zack and Shayla

A sensually seductive, intriguing, and beautiful second chance romance. Zack and Shayla are both fighting to let go of the past but with their undeniable connection, and super steamy chemistry they learn that they can overcome anything together. I adored this story.
Narration was fabulous!

Great story!

I loved seeing behind the curtains of Shaila, Shilla the Killa. She's a lot softer than expected and her history is one that made me feel for her. She went through something that no one should ever have to go through and made it out the other side. She didn't fall apart, she rebuild herself into something new. She didn't let her life stop because of one lost dream, she created and went after a new dream. I am truly awed by her character and strength. Well done to the author on creating this character. My only qualm with Shaila is that she has moments when she becomes whiny and it doesn't really go well with her overall character, but thankfully those moments are few and far between.
Zac, Slayer, is another great character. He and Shaila were friends that became lovers long ago, back when they were children. Zac was the guy from the wrong side of the tracks, sorta, but she didn't care. She saw him for so much more than his living situation. He was a guy who had a abusive dad and grew up early so he could take care of his two sisters. He did right by Shaila, even if it hurt her and he maybe should have gone about it in a better way. Zac is a good guy who carries the weight of the world and other people's failures or wrongdoings on his shoulders. After running into Shaila once again, he makes the decisions that this time he isn't going to let her go. This time he plans to get the girl and his dream back. I really liked this character and how far he was willing to go for others, even if his good intentions didn't work out the way he intended sometimes.
Overall, this book was really great. I really enjoyed hearing how Shaila finally got her man and how Zac came back to be better than he was before.
Well done to the author for an amazing story and to the narrators for bringing that story to life. Looking forward to whatever comes next.

Zack & Shayla

I have been waiting for forever for this book. Great ending to redemption series. I hate Sandy, but I would still like a happy ending for her.

It's ok

Glad Shayla got her own story. The story wasn't bad. I just did not personally identify with it.

No real connection between the Shayla portrayed in this story and the bits and pieces we saw before. Not completely far fetched, but it just hard for me to reconcile.

Her somewhat easy acceptance of Zach backnin her life dis not mesh for me with her internal musings of their past history.

I finished it because it wasn't bad, but I can't say it's a good story for me.
