About this listen
2016 Goodreads Choice Award-winning poet Amanda Lovelace returns in the witch doesn't burn in this one - the bold second book in her women are some kind of magic series.
The witch: supernaturally powerful, inscrutably independent, and now - indestructible. These moving, relatable poems encourage resilience and embolden women to take control of their own stories. Enemies try to judge, oppress, and marginalize her, but the witch doesn't burn in this one.

Story
Life is hard enough for a teenage girl in 1950s suburbia without having a mother who may—or may not—be a witch. A single mother at that. Sure, she fits in with her starched dresses, string of pearls, and floral aprons. Then there are the hushed and mystical consultations with neighborhood women in distress. The unsavory, mysterious plants in the flower beds. The divined warning to steer clear of a boyfriend whose fate is certainly doomed.

Story
From her first moment at Merryweather High, Melinda Sordino knows she's an outcast. She busted an end-of-summer party by calling the cops, a major infraction in high-school society, so her old friends won't talk to her, and people she doesn't know glare at her. She retreats into her head, where the lies and hypocrisies of high school stand in stark relief to her own silence, making her all the more mute.

Story
One of the most recognizable young poets in America, Olivia Gatwood dazzles with her tribute to contemporary American womanhood in her debut book, New American Best Friend. Gatwood's poems deftly deconstruct traditional stereotypes. The focus shifts from childhood to adulthood, gender to sexuality, violence to joy. And always and inexorably, the book moves toward celebration, culminating in a series of odes: odes to the body, to tough women, to embracing your own journey in all its failures and triumphs.

powerful
so I will definitely say that this book was very powerful, Like her others. she's an incredible woman, poet and author. I will admit though, that I definitely think I personally would have rather read it myself rather than have it read to me and listening to it. I found it to be hard to listen to, especially the parts that are purposefully repetitive. I found myself hitting the fast forward button a couple times because it was just too much in my opinion. otherwise in excellent read, and I definitely think others should dive in regardless of how.

Couldn't get past
the section where she says the same phrase for four full minutes. I realize that a book of poetry might not translate too well into an audiobook. The repeat of that one phrase that she clearly wanted to emphasize, must have looked good in print, but was very irritating to listen to.
