Publisher's summary

Confessions of a Prairie Bitch is Alison Arngrim's comic memoir of growing up as one of television's most memorable characters - the devious Nellie Oleson on the hit television show Little House on the Prairie.

With behind-the-scenes stories from the set, as well as tales from her bohemian upbringing in West Hollywood and her headline-making advocacy work on behalf of HIV awareness and abused children, Confessions of a Prairie Bitch is a must for fans of everything Little House: the classic television series and its many stars like Michael Landon and Melissa Gilbert; Gilbert's best-selling memoir Prairie Tale; and, of course, the beloved series of books by Laura Ingalls Wilder that started it all.

Brings back a lot of memories

Was great getting an inside peek behind the scenes of Little House. The show wouldn’t have been nearly as good without Nellie.
As an aside, am I the only one questioning why lawmakers would purposefully write in loopholes that legitimize pedophiles and make legal their actions? Governor Newsome in CA just did this again in 2020, BTW, making this legal as long as there is no more than a 10 year difference in age, making it perfectly legal for a 24 year old to have sex with a 14 year old minor. That this is flat wrong is not in debate by sane people. It is time to investigate the motive behind these so-called laws, who is enacting them, and who these loophole laws are designed to benefit, which certainly is not the children.

Whaaa!!! I finished it!! Ready for volume 2.

I loved this audible book. No, I was never a regular LHOTP watcher and have not seen every episodes. But that didn't stop me from purchasing this book and loving it. I would love this book even if I didn't know who Nellie Olson was as I fell in love with Alison Arngrim. I found this book on a list of popular audio books. She's funny, honest, compassionate and resilient. I admired her matter of fact attitude regarding the sexual abuse she suffered as a child. Horrific, but she is a not a prisoner to it. Hate Nellie Olson? Be ready to love Alison Arngrim!!

VERY FUNNY with some sad parts , good bio

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes , it is very funny with some sad parts related to child abuse . The narration was done by the author herself so it was if she was telling you the story , it added credibility and emotion to the story that given some of the gut wrenching parts made it powerful . The stories were I believe and she spoke clearly and was not hesitant in the use of profanity , this is a woman that I would like to have a beer with and hear more stories . Given the current revelations of harassment and abuse this woman ,should be seen as a source of inspiration in how to deal with and persevere .She has a wicked and sharp wit with a twisted sense of humor , this is a woman we need more of !.

What did you like best about this story?

The stories of life behind the scenes of the tv show , her honesty and humor in all her travails .

Which scene was your favorite?

The scene at the school where she was kicked , fell down and could not get up because of her dress, told in a brutal funny way . There were other scenes that were just as funny , this is one of the best biographies that I have heard in a long time.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and no , I listen to all my books on my commute or just regular driving so I listen to them episodically, this book was great in that the performance was like a friend in the car telling you stories on a road trip. That is my personal standard of excellence in a audio book I could listen to it in one sitting but I was glad I was able take a break when the sad parts were told.

Any additional comments?

Really enjoyed this book , ( I don't post reviews for all my titles ) so this one did stand out , I hope Ms Arngrim will narrate more books or will write more herself. God bless her for her work with children and the ill , again we need more people like her .

Favorite audiobook so far

I enjoyed this book so much. I was laughing out loud at times. I want to go back and rewatch the Little house series after listening to this book. Alison is an insightful, humorous storyteller. I’m so glad she narrated her own book. A+

Very interesting for a long-time LHP fan, however...

Listening to the facts about Alison’s childhood was heartbreaking. I wondered if she had ever shared with Melissa Gilbert, or did her LHP co-stars learn of her heartbreaking life before she ever appeared on the show only when she went public... I did enjoy the way Alison shared stories about LHP and the reactions she got out in public. I was really disappointed with the cursing, especially towards the end of the book. Being a Christian ... that was quite disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend the book for that reason. A filthy mouth does not make a story more interesting.

wonderful read!

as hard as it was to read about the details of her abuse, I lived her vulnerability and honesty and I admire her courage and love her ability to share her story with humor, care, cooth, and candor. well done!
