When Jessie Conway survives a horrific mass high school shooting, in the aftermath she finds herself thrust into the media spotlight, drawing all kinds of attention. But some of it is the wrong kind.

A sadistic serial killer has been watching her every move. A skilled hunter, he likes his victims to be a challenge. Jessie is strong, fearless, a survivor, and now she is his ultimate prey.

As the killer picks off his current victims one by one, chasing, killing, and butchering them with his crossbow, he's closing in on Jessie. But will Jessie defy the odds and escape with her life? Or will she be the killer's final sacrifice?

Where does Last to Die rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

My favorite genre is fantasy/fiction, particularly time travel, so it would have to rank after most of those. But of the non-fantasy/fiction novels I have listened to, it would rank very high, particularly because of the narrator. But the story was good. Interesting the main character is a special education, as am I, and the story starts out with a school shooting, too many of which we are having in the world, including my home town and school district. In a high school just a few miles away from where I teach, a student brought weapons to school and was shot and critically injured by school police.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Last to Die?

The climax - when Caleb is about to kill Jesse and she fights back. We don't know for quite some time whether or not he succeeded in killing her or if she killed or injured him enough to survive. It was a great story, and the ending was quite satisfying.

Have you listened to any of Teri Schnaubelt’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She is the most amazing narrator I have ever listened to. I have listened to all of her Celtic Brooch series books and she is the reason I chose to listen to this - cannot get enough of Teri.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I neither laughed nor cried, but I was on the edge of my seat throughout the story. It took right off and continued to take me on a fast-paced journey into the unknown.

Any additional comments?

I so love having Audible in my life. And I am so thrilled to have encountered Teri Schnaubelt and have thus expanded my preferred genres to take full advantage of her narration. Thank you Arlene Hunt and Teri for another great read. ~ Linda

This was a fast read; I enjoyed it very much. I didn't like the backwoods voices from the narrator but that's just me, otherwise great narration.

Good tension, well paced story, satisfying ending. AND in the plus selection. I’m going to read what she writes next.

Great book

Overall, this was an okay thriller. Based on the description, a serial killer was not what I expected. I found the way the book begins with a school shooting and then takes a left turn and somehow makes the tragic event a sidenote, when it, and its aftermath, would have well been worthy of a book, a bit iffy. If you ignore that, the rest is okay. I liked the narration. The beginning just seemed like a different story.
