Publisher's summary

Jessica Charles shouldn't have even been in London when the unthinkable happened. She should have been back at home in Edinburgh, perhaps hanging with her boyfriend, having drinks with her sister, or doing yoga with her group of friends. She should have been going on in her normal, dependable life as always.

But on that fateful day in August, when a mentally ill ex-soldier opened fire in public, Jessica's world changed forever.

Now single and crippled from the gunshot wounds, Jessica finds herself scared and alone, losing faith in herself and humanity with each agonizing moment that passes. That is until a stranger enters her life. A stranger who makes her live again.

Keir McGregor has always been the strong, silent type. Throw in tall, dark, and handsome, and you've got pretty much the perfect Scotsman. Except Keir is anything but perfect. He's got a past he's running away from and a guilty conscience he can't seem to shed. But the more time he spends with Jessica, the more he falls in love with her. And the more his secret threatens to tear them apart.

Liked but not loved

I love the McGregor series, these men are fantastic book boyfriends. This one was tragically beautiful. Although it was a bit predictable, I enjoyed the story being told. I'm not going to say that I loved this on but It was very memorable. It's interesting to see how two people can be drawn together under the most unfortunate circumstances. I'm wondering how far the author will go with this series, It's so far removed from the Pact that I have a hard time remember that it started there.

I love Lidia dornet, she is one of my favorites. Anthony Ferguson is ok, I prefer Shaun Grindell's McGregor performance in the pact.

Another great Karina Halle romance!

I have been a Karina Halle fan since "The Pact" and have loved every installment in her McGregor series. This book did not disappoint! I was impressed with the way she let us in to Jessica's mind and feel the horror of living through an act of terror in the streets of London. I am happy to report that Jessica is a firecracker and not a loathsome "woe is me" character. Keir McGregor is damaged as well, and both of them are strong characters that push through and live each day with their baggage from the past. The chemistry between the two was great from the start! Their growing attraction for each other was believable and natural. Unlike many other romance books, this did not feel forced.
Lidia Dornet does a fantastic job of narrating both Jessica's voice as well as the Scottish brogue of the other characters. Antony Ferguson's voice is rich and deep and very swoon-worthy! Admittedly, as a voice actor, I believe he could do better when narrating the female voice - it comes across a bit too high and with a strange somewhat southern accent. Regardless, I could listen to these two all day.

This is awesome story. Great story line.

Keeps you in the story. Just like you are watching a movie. The narrator does a great job.

An effortlessly written novel

This emotional story seems to be written effortlessly, with characters who share plenty of banter and extremely hot chemistry.

long 9 hours

I can't believe I listen to the whole story. I couldn't grasp the excitement. As someone who loves a positive twist on stories of PTSD, but the story in my opinion seem to go on and on.
I was really disappointed on the constant debbie downer path that Jessica harps on.
