Publisher's summary

The Aliomenti village is in ruins, destroyed by one of their own, its population nearly eliminated in the calamity. From the ruins, the Aliomenti rise to international prominence, influencing buyers and sellers, warriors and bureaucrats, as they patiently and invisibly expand their empire. Will Stark serves as the driving force behind that expansion. Whether he's creating their innovations or offering subtle hints, few of their revolutionary progressions are made without his influence. But Will is dealing with his own private heartache. Even as he watches his fellow Aliomenti ascend to heights few of them imagined possible, his long journey becomes one he'll make alone. He's haunted by the knowledge that what enables him to make that journey will also prevent him from seeing his most important mission to its completion.

Will must persevere, fighting through his own gloom, an organization that threatens to tear itself apart, and a reunion with old friends at an inopportune time. He'll come to realize that his own decisions, his own inability to understand even those he knows not to trust, have enabled a tyrant to seize control of the Aliomenti in the aftermath of a crisis.

I love the sub!!!

Man, this one had an even bigger mix of emotions than the previous… The gathering of people for the Aliomenti and the technological advancement is very entertaining and probably my favorite part. But man do I hate to see the “taint” grow in the group. I mostly enjoyed Will as he tried to be the positive pillar of the group, leading the push for innovation. Even if it is based on his knowledge of his past that was technically in the future…
There is a sadness for our favorite couple… as they have to deal with a millennia-long chaste courtship… that would be BEYOND difficult…! I can’t even imagine it… It makes them “champions” just for that…!
The design of Will’s major “project” is probably my favorite aspect of this book. The designing, testing, and application is a lot of fun for me.
But otherwise there is the obvious eventuality of the sound of the other shoe… as this is the Aliomenti we are talking about. Which is led by Arthur and his cronies… it had to end badly.

The narrator continues to do a great job with bringing these characters and their story to life.
I jumped to the next book immediately. It is probably my favorite of the series!

A juggling act

The two women have escaped, both believed dead. Adam had taken care of the community, leaving only Will and Arthur.
Will had to leave, his disgust for both men difficult to hide, and yet he knew he had 12 centuries to ensure both stayed alive, to meet in the 22nd Century.
Life was about to get all about finding something to ensure that the years didn't take their toll on his mental health.
Luckily, during their wanderings, the ladies and Will had an interesting find, that at least lengthened their lifetimes.

worth reading but...

I loved the first book of this series. The second was good but dragged a little here and there. This one..dragged more than the second and was a little too detailed at times. I don't want to give any spoilers so am probably being too general but that's my opinion. It's worth reading and I will read the entire series.
