Publisher's summary

Robbie Jordan may have had reservations about the murder victim, but she still needs to turn up the heat on a killer if she wants to keep her new restaurant open for business....

In the charming small town of South Lick, Indiana, Robbie has transformed a rundown country store into the runaway hit Pans 'N Pancakes. But the most popular destination for miles around can also invite trouble.

Erica Shermer may be the widow of handsome local lawyer Jim Shermer's brother, but she doesn't appear to be in mourning. At a homecoming party held in Robbie's store, Erica is alternately obnoxious and flirtatious - even batting her eyelashes at Jim.

When Erica turns up dead in the store the next morning, apparently clobbered with cookware, the police suspect Robbie's friend Phil, who closed up after the party. To clear Phil and calm her customers, Robbie needs to step out from behind the counter and find the real killer in short order....

Only because I love murder mysteries

This is the second book by this author.
It’s an enjoyable read. A bit predictable.
The only down side I can think of is the incredible amount of descriptive detail in preparing food. Although the main character owns a diner it became a bit tedious now and again.
The constant “murderer on the loose” became a bit old as well.
Overall I enjoyed the first two. Am about to read the third in the series. Hoping it’s as entertaining.

Great listen.

Just the right amount of suspense and a large choice of people for the murderer. It also made me hungry, which seems to be part of the job of these books.

A Yooper's Heart

I was super thrilled to hear mention of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, specifically the Soo(Sault Ste Marie), bc that's where I live and have grown up in the surrounding area. Most people don't know anything about the area, let alone the Upper Peninsula at all, so it was exciting to hear so randomly in this one. Thanks, Maddie, for the shout-out!

Narrator sounds too old.

I find the stories enjoyable, and like the characters. I feel like I really know them. But the narrator sounds way too old for the main character. the protagonist is suppose to be in her late 20's, but sounds like a much older woman. when I listen, I picture the Robbie as a woman in her late 60's to 70's. I have no problem with an older protagonist, but find it very distracting and annoying to have to constantly remind myself that Robbie is a younger woman. The audiobook would just be way more enjoyable of the narrator was a better fit.

Much better than the 1st one

The 1st book was marginal but I decided to try 1 more in the series and was very pleasantly surprised. This one was much much better.

Must have

Wonderful read/listen.
Recommended to anyone that’s interested in a nice clean crime book . When I say clean, I mean as in, there’s no profanity, no vulgar usage just overall nice about to start number two out of this series. 😊

Bad luck magnet

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes it's a cute story and it moves well...soo it has a nice relaxing factor.

What other book might you compare Grilled for Murder to and why?

Nothing I can think of

Have you listened to any of Laural Merlington’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Fine

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Any additional comments?

Robbie seems sooo much older than she's described and when she gets angry at Jim it seemed sooo out of character

Storyline and character back stories

Nothing to dislike. The characters are real and believable. Nothing is wasted as far as plot development.
