Publisher's summary

Flower child, vegetarian, and humanitarian Harlow Pratt and gruff cattle ranch foreman Hugh Pritchett have been taunting each other for years. Hugh thinks she's nothing but a spoiled rich girl, and he's had enough of that life with his ex-wife. Harlow thinks Hugh is an ill-mannered troublemaker who wouldn't know fun if it bit him on his tight, denim-clad butt.

When Harlow and Hugh are forced together at the Split Rock Ranch and Resort, everything changes. They might be polar opposites, but working out their differences skin to skin, in the dark, seems to help them find some common ground. But when trouble from both their pasts comes calling, Harlow and Hugh have no one else to lean on. Can they trust one another enough to make it through the hard times together, or will their tentative truce fall apart?

Gotta love the Blacktop Cowboys series!

Ms. James has written another fun, sexy read. I truly enjoy getting lost in these books. Read them in order. I would also suggest that you refresh your memory if it's been awhile. One of my favorite things about Lorelei James is that she doesn't waste time filling in old back stories.

Random dubbed over sections

Random parts that sound recorded over it’s annoying this isn’t the first book in the series with this issue

Good book

Any additional comments?

The thing I didn't like about the book was that it had an abrupt ending or at least it felt like it cause the story was not wrapped up like the previous books were. I was still waiting for the ex boyfriend to find her and start something and get dead or arrested. However, other than that, it was a book that kept my interest and had sexy, hot sex scenes. I would recommend this book.

I liked it; not my favorite

It was a good addition to the series. Not my favorite, but good. I love hearing about Muddy Gap and seeing more from my favorite characters. Renner and Tierney seemed waaaay different which I didn't like so much since I love their story the most. Still good.

Hot, sexy, full of sharing and compromising

After reading some reviews I wasn’t sure I’d like this one, but it was truly amazing. There was one phrase, said once, that I disagreed with the author for saying it that way, however, I think the way he handled the situation after she explained it and stated the way she wanted things to go was very caring and thoughtful. Thou at first it was hard to keep track of because it jumped from past to present many times, (I heard no difference in narration, hope reading would show different fonts) after that it flowed very well and was a very good romance with a very unique storyline all the way thru.

Grumpy stock foreman Eu discovers the real Harlow Pratt

Tierney’s little sister complicated history is part of the focus in this book.when she becomes involved with Renner’s stock foreman the plot results in changes to the overall series storyline. Their story is interesting but is drags. The characters are engaging but the narration is worse than usual due to the lack of range. The females often sound whiny and the males frequently sound like women. The story and character development is good but the pacing and narration drag this audiobook down. This is one I would recommend you skip in audio format and just read at your own pace to keep abreast of the series story arc and to learn more about these characters as well as getting a behind the scenes glimpse at the provision of some of the animals for a rodeo.

F*uck Punishing

Ms. James, an incredibly gifted yet strangely misogynistic author, coined a particularly bizarre and degrading phrase in this book: fuck punishing, more commonly known as rape or sexual assault.

When Harlow told Hugh about a previous abusive relationship, she described how she was punished by her sadistic lover with violent non-consensual sex including choking, beating and humiliation. Rather than consoling and comforting Harlow, Hugh immediately wanted to know how rough he could be to her before she would refuse to have sex with her. How romantic...

I found Harlow and Hugh's casual acceptance of domestic abuse in their sexual relationship baffling and disturbing. What kind of man enjoys bullying a rape survivor, demonstrating no respect or human kindness. What kind of intelligent, mature woman is willing tolerate physical violence from a new lover after almost dying?

While I enjoyed the 95% of the story that did not promote and condone sexual abuse, the 5% of violence detracted from any entertainment value. Since Hugh had contact with Harlow's 3 year old niece, I kept wondering if he liked hurting little girls too. Why couldn't Harlow be strong, assertive and sexy? Why couldn't Hugh like and admire women?
